I was on cloud 9 when I came to know that my daughter got the admission in CMR NPS.

Pros: Teaching methodology is good as they are following the standards set by Dr. K P Gopalkrishna. My daughter likes very much this school and she is enjoying / learning a lot in the school. Other good thing is “Open house sessions”. Really wonderful.

Improvement areas: Conducting regular parent – teacher meetings, conducting both sports day and annual day, sharing sports day & annual day in DVD format, providing important information through sms, stopping frequent change of class teachers, having dedicated website showing information about the school, students, teachers contact info, future programs etc.

Cons: Actual school fee for LKG was around Rs 60, 000 in 2009-10 and I was assumed that it will go around 80 to 90 K when she reaches 10th standard. Once in 3 years fee hike of 5 to 10% is common  practice. At first standard itself it crossed 90K!

For next academic session  i.e 2011-12, CMR NPS has increased the school fee by 40% without giving any reasons for such exuberant hike. Now First standard students has to pay whopping Rs 93, 000 /- as school fee.  Mind blowing amount for first standard student .

Management should conduct a meeting with all the parents before taking such drastic step and should justify their decision.

If you see fee hike by management for last three years,

Around Rs 60, 340 in LKG(2009-10) 10% hike compared to 2008-09

Around Rs 66, 380 in UKG(2010-11) 10% hike compared to 2009-10

Now they increased school fee from 66000 to 93000 for First standard(2011-12) a 40% hike compared to 2010-11.

That means in three years they increased school fee by whopping 70%.

I think they have around 8 sections for the first standard and around 30 students per class. That means 240 students for first standard and management is collecting 240*93000= 2, 23, 20, 000

i.e around Rs 2.2 crores in one year.

On higher end Rs 38 lakhs is going as salaries for the teachers by assuming that 16 teachers for first standard, and Rs 20, 000 per month as the salary. Also assume Rs 30 lakhs as other administrative expenses. What’s happening to the rest of the Rs 1.5 crore? Where they are utilising that amount?

The management is using the brand name of the school as money making machine.

Last year high court of Maharashtra has passed the judgment that every private school should form a committee with a mix of parents and school management. This committee will take the decision on hiking of the school fee and should provide the justification for the same to all the parents before implementing the hike. Karnataka government also should pass such resolution to curb the exuberant fee hikes to help the parents.
