I was trying to finalize school for my daughter and doing the search in mouth shut. Looks like there are very few reviews for the schools in Bangalore. So let me do my bit.My son attends CMR National Public School at Kamanahalli Bangalore. He is in 2nd standard. There are at least 5 kids from my neighborhood in the same school. My understanding is that most of the people are happy (me included) with CMR NPS.

The school has similar curriculum as National Public school run by Mr Gopalakrishna. In fact Mr Gopalakrishna is in the director board of this school also. CMR itself is a reputed institution having other educational institutions in its own brand. I will try and put my experience in different categoryWhy did I pick up this school for my son?

Distance, School bus connectivity etc worked out for me. Feedback from neighbors’ kids who attend the school has been very goodI visited the school, I found a disciplined system for information about admissions, results etc. Notice board is well organized. Receptionist was very helpful. The school has good infrastructure. Class rooms are spacious with good furniture. There are good labs (both science and computer). Last time I visited a new library has also come up.

Experience with admission

Application forms were given in the month of October. They informed me that there will be written test somewhere in the month of February and they would be informing us directly. I picked up the application (don’t remember the application fee, think it was Rs 100 or so). As promised we got a call from the school in the month of February for written test. Couple of weeks after the written test, the results were published. Interestingly they would not call and inform the result, you have to visit the school and see the notice board.

I was required to pay the school feel by demand draft (approx 67 thousand in 2008). There are no donations. Bus fee was paid later (approx 10thousand per annum, distance about 10 km from the school)

Experience with the school

I believe the teachers are fairly good. I thought the school I studied in Trivandrum (which is sort of average school there) had better teachers. But then I would reserve this comment, may be higher classes has better teachers. Teaching is quite methodical, almost every day my son has home work :-) . So teaching at home is sort of expected (may be the same everywhere). They have regular unit tests and I guess the school academic oriented. I don’t remember my son talking about sports so far…

The school is well disciplined. Recently I took my son to school at around 9:00 AM. The vice principal did not allow him. She politely explained to me why she cannot accept the same. I argued, without luck. The class teacher sends regular updates in the diary. Similarly we get report cards once a quarter. One think I wish is that the school could have been more internet friendly. There are no frills associated with the school (air conditioned class rooms, snacks etc). Apart from the fees, they don’t try to make money on uniforms or books or anything else. You end up spending less than 2-3 thousand for all these.

Once in a term or so they take kids out for educational trips. Once in a while my son has to make some assignments (art/craft). My wife sort of enjoys doing this..

Overall I think the school is very good.

Why am I exploring school for my daughter?

Now that new schools have come up, just want to make sure we make the right decision. Also my daughter is going to be in Montiserry for 2011, she will be in first standard by 2014. Looking at the way fees is increasing, I feel by the time she reach first standard it will be close to 90 thousand. Please note that the future fees is based on this and there is only marginal increment afterwards.
