'CID' has been one of my favourite Hindi Crime Serial which is definitely one of the most realistic and convincing episode after episode, considering that it is Homegrown.Created and Directed by B.P.Singh who started his career as a Camerama.
Also the creator of AAHAT, has done a brilliant job in holding together both the cast and the impact of Detective story telling for a commendably long spell which is very difficult in Indian TV, unless you have Saas Bahu or a Comedy with Laugh track.
The cast consists of Shivaji Satam-ACP Pradyuman, Aditya Srivastav-Inspector Abhijeet, Dayanand Shetty (deceased in the 14.08.09 episode)-Inspector Daya , Dinesh Phadnis - Inspector Fredericks (Freddy) Comic element in the show, Narendra Gupta-Dr.Salunke, Vivek Mashru-Vivek & Shradda Mussale-Dr.Sarika.
The purpose of this short review would be to cover the episode 'Behrupiya' telecast on 14/08/2009. This was a special 2 Hour epsiode. It opens with a gangster getting a Plastic Surgery done to impersonate as one of the members in the Gang.The doctor who does the surgery on this criminal is killed by him.It is not revealed who this 'Behrupiya ' resembles out of the three main characters of this Serial, ACP, Abhijeeth and Daya. But the direction and story telling is so effective to the viewers, that each one looks capable of being the Impersonator.
Intially, Our ACP Saheb looks as though he is under some stress and behaves forgetfull. Freddy-Inspector in the Crime Branch who is also a harmless comic relief, notices this and tells Abhijeet and Daya who are his senior colleagues that the Saheb looks very Badla Badla.But they dismiss this. Next , Daya and Abhijeeth enact scene after scene where viewers are left guessing which one is the Behrupiya as they both look capable of being one due their actions.
The suspense builds up with the CID Team finally discovering the Dead Doctor and the place where the Plasic Surgery was done.They discover enough evidence here to prove that Daya is the Impersonator ! ACP is dumbfounded and so is Abhijeet.But Daya comes back next day with clinching evidence , The Real Abhijeeth, and so the Duplicate Abhijeeth alias Rocky Gangster standing next to ACP at an Independence Day function pulls out his Gun, knowing very well that his game is up.Daya shoots him but not before getting shot twice in the Chest.Daya is rushed to the hospital and after a touch of Melodrama & Emotions, the Heart & Pulse Monitor goes Dead.Daya is no More !
A well enacted & directed episode but not free from a few harmless gaffes.Although Freddy suspects something, It is unusual that Vivek has no role & is not utilized.During the Hospital Scene the Pulse Monitor displays 'DEMO MODE'. Overall a Good Episode and ofcourse it remains to be seen if Daya is Back in the next episode !! You never know.
