This review will help those who are interested in knowing about the Scanner and also I hope help the one who is interested in purchasing a scanner.

Before buying any Scanner try to figure out your actual purpose. So if it is for just some DTP or for some simple work then then wanna go for some cheaper Scanners like HP2200C like that and if it is for professional use like digital photo mixing or in your work the resolution matters then you just go for some good high end Scanners like UMAX ASTRA 2400S for example.

So for any scanner the major parameters are:

  • Maxm Scan Size

  • Maxm Resolution with which scanning can be done

  • Speed or time required to scan

  • Type of Interface like SCSI, Parallel Port or USB

Low End Scanner

So if it is for the DTP purpose and where you are not going scan much images every day(In the sense Scanning time is not a problem for you) then we can go for the low end scanner which we can easily get on the market for a price of arround 4000/-. These are available with USB or Parallel port interfaces. If it is the one with USB interface means wanna well and good as it has its own advantage of speed and you can use this scanner without restarting the machine. Or if it is the one with parallel port means we can connect it directly to the printer port of the machine.

However the disadvantage of Low End Scanner is it takes much time to scan and also there is a limitation for the maximum resolution.

High End Scanners

So if you are a professional graphic designer, you used to scan much number of images daily then better to go for a High End Scanner.

In the high End Scanner the major points to be noted are The Resolution, High Speed as well the Interface like SCSI

The high end scanner mainly uses the SCSI interface and with which we can expect somewhat good scanning speed.

If you are going for Digital mixing of photos and all then you must have to go for the high end scanners like UMAX ASTRA 2400S for example.

One more facts that is to be considered is the accompanied scanning software. Good scanning software means we can take the best advantage of that scanner .

Now a days some scanners are available in the market with an option for'Negative Scanning' means using which we can directly scan the negative images(For example: ACER 640UT)

The final fact that is to be considered is the network support .If you want to use the scanner in a networked environment means then you should clarify weather the scanner software supports the network scanning.

Hope these informations are very useful to you all.
