One Out-of-the-way TIP--more details

One good way of being able to judge picture clarity is to tell your salesman to put on the same channel in all the televisions you have shortlisted.

There will be some difference in most cases...so take the remote and start a voyage of discovery on the picture settings...see if you can get all the Televisions to show the same picture in terms of contrast brightness etc...

If it happens then each one is offering you pretty much the same clarity...if not then choose which one you like best and go for that.

You can do this for sound quality also..blast all 3 of them and then at a very low volume..see if there is any kind of, for lack of a better word. strain on them.

Always stand at a distance which would be equal to the distance from where you will be viewing your TV in the house.

Happy Purchasing.

MORE DETAILS

Now this happened when I was trying to decide which tv to buy for myself. I was initally looking at Flat screens but then decided they are not worth it.

Anway I performed this test with Samsung, Onida, Philips (eye fi series) and LG.

What I also ensured to do was take another friend with me to get second opinion and thus more points into focus while decideing. I would suggest this to everyone.

  1. Picture Clarity...now this is what I was really stuck on...the philips as I have mentioned in my review also looks a bit more angled than the others...but after going in for this ''test'' that went out the window. I put on HBO to test the clarity etc. Samsung was the only one whicch came close to the Philips (New Samsung Model). It was much sharper and the design made it look bigger..but the colour depth was missing...and I could not really turn the samsung pictureinto a soft one...whereas I could turn the philips to be much sharper. The Eye Fi could have been the added advantage here.

  2. SOUND--now this was not a big factor as I have a home theatre but I tested the sound against Onida..The KY model....the bass in the onida was much more coz of the KY but it seemed to be drowning out the treble a bit..the mid on the Philipos was way clearer according to me than the Onida and so was the treble..hence it was a 2:1. Samsung and LG did not even qualify to sit for the test!! Clear tone on the Philips. Excellent.
