There were times when the audience used to get to see a Yash Raj Film,about once in a year,but now the leading film banner of India has become very active and after giving three hits,”Hum Tum”,”Dhoom” and ”Veer-Zaara”,one after the other,they are back with another film,called ”Bunty aur Babli”.This one is one of the most awaited films of the year,because of many reasons.First of all,it brings the beautiful pair of Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji,again after ”Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai” and ”Yuva” (also,”Hum Tum”).Secondly,this film brings together for the first time,the father-son pair of Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan,on screen.Thirdly,this film has an item number by the none other than Aishwarya Rai.So,does the film lives upto the expectations a viewer has from it?

Yash Raj Films. ”Bunty aur Babli”,directed by Shaad Ali,stars Amitabh Bachchan,Abhishek Bachchan,Rani Mukerji,Raj Babbar,Puneet Issar,Prem Chopra,Pratima Kazmi and Aishwarya Rai.This film has everything going its way.It has the Yash Raj banner on it and it has got three successful stars,in it.It has got Amitabh Bachchan in it who has had two recent successes,”Black” and ”Waqt”.It has got Abhishek Bachchan who is riding high on success after ”Dhoom”,and of course it has the leading actress of these days,Rani Mukerji in it whose performance in ”Black”,the industry is raving about.So,do these three superstars give a hit again,when they combine together?

”Bunty Aur Babli” is a comedy film which revolves around the lives of two ‘ambitious’ people.Rakesh Trivedi a.k.a Bunty (Abhishek Bachchan),lives in a very disorganized town,with his father (Raj Babbar),who is a ticket collector.Rakesh Trivedi is much more ambitious than his father or than any other people living in his town,as he dreams of going to Mumbai,and becoming a very important personality,of that sort who usually appears on “Page 3” and whom everybody discusses.He wants to own a mansion,a car and everything.On the other hand,there is Vimmi Kaur a.k.a Babli (Rani Mukerji),who is not your typical innocent and traditional Indian girl.She wants to leave the village she lives in and like Bunty,even she wants to go to Mumbai and wants to take part in the Miss India Contest,rather than making “laddoos” in her village,as per her father`s (Puneet Issaar) wish.Bunty runs from his town,and at the same time,Babli also runs from her village.Both of them get to Mumbai,to test their luck.Both of them,fail in making it big,in Mumbai.Bunty doesn`t get anything nor does Babli enter into the Miss India contest,because a man asks her for sexual favours,which she rejects outright.One day,as it was destined,both these wannabees meet each other,and find out that both of them have common aims in life,so they both unite and this is the moment from which the whole India has to face problems.Both of them start doing robberies and they get into crime.They find different ways of getting money and to make others face loss.They rob a shopping mall,they commit crime at a hotel bar and at Taj Mahal,and where not.Both of them make life miserable for everyone,living in India.In this way,their purpose of making it to the headlines of all the newspapers gets completed,as their robberies get famous at every part of India.Now,their case has to be taken very seriously and for this purpose,Inspector Dashrath (Amitabh Bachchan) is appointed to find out both these criminals Bunty and Babli.Dashrath is very much amused when he gets to know about these two criminals,as he comes to konow that nor do they commit crimes for getting money and nor to find a way out of poverty.If they commit crimes,that is only for fun.Will Dashrath get hold of these two criminals?What will happen to Bunty and Babli,if they are arrested?To know the answers,watch ”Bunty Aur Babli” at your nearest theatres.

Amitabh Bachchan has done a good job as Inspector Dashrath.His introduction scenes and the chasing scenes and especially the scenes which he has with Abhishek Bachchan are quite nice and the actor makes his presence felt,though his role is not so meaty and he is introduced after the interval.

Abhishek Bachchan gives yet another wonderful performance after ”Yuva”,”Phir Milenge” and ”Dhoom”.This performance is surely going to be loved by his fans and this is one such performance which will always remain memorable in the actor`s career.I had heard that Abhishek had lost 12 kilos for this film,and it shows.The actor has lost a lot of weight and as a result,he looks young,energetic and very much like his character Bunty.That is why this character fits him like a glove.This is one of the best comice performance of the year 2005!

Rani Mukerji has proved once again that she can carry off any kind of role,no matter what!She has done it all,in her career.She has been a usual Bollywood heroine,who sings and dances.She has played the role of a housewife in ”Yuva”.She has played the role of a blind and deaf girl in ”Black”,and this time we get to see her doing comedy and she does it with equal brilliance.The actress shines in every single scene of film.Whether in her scenes where she interacts with her father,or where she plans a crime and even in some serious scenes of this film.The actress has already such a large number of fan following and this film will further increase the number of her fans.

Others do their jobs,well too.Raj Babbar and Puneet Issar,are the best among the supporting cast.Pratima Kazmi also leaves a mark.Prem Chopra is wasted! Aishwarya Rai looks gorgeous in her item number,which will be liked a lot by the front benchers.

Shaad Ali comes back as a director after the brilliant,”Saathiya”,and this time he handles a comedy,equally well.The film is very entertaining and it has all the reasons to smile.The introduction of both the characters,Bunty and Babli,is done very well.The scene,where Babli is asked for sexual favours to take part in the Miss India contest is really good.The scene where both the main characters of the film meet for the first time is handled very well.Their first crime sequence is really gripping and entertaining.Watch out for that one!The scene where they sell the Taj Mahal to some Americans,is really very funny.The chasing and escaping scenes between Inspector Dashrath and Bunty and Babli are also fun to watch!Screenplay is not upto the mark and it could have been better.All the scenes are very hilarious but they seem very siloly and stupid and this is the point where the film falters.
