Biscuits can sometimes be really boring – tasteless squares and circles of flour that have nothing to say for themselves. Insipid bits of food fit only for hospital patients and people who believe in turning teatime into a dull, unappetizing and pre-eminently forgettable experience. Yes, I am kidding of course, but you get the point.
And then there are biscuits like Britannia Maska Chaska… a strong personality, a distinct flavour, a tangy delight – and there’s nothing remotely boring about it. I chanced upon my first pack by accident. There were some guests coming over for tea on a Sunday evening, so I went out and picked up an assortment of various biscuits – I had no idea of who would prefer what, so the selection was really random. Included in the selection were several packs of Britannia Maska Chaska and those were the biscuits that the guests attacked with relish. They were gone so fast that I had to send my husband scurrying out to fetch some more packs.
Ever since that day, it’s been a staple in my larder. Sadly, they are available mostly in small packs – I wish I could buy massive super-saver packs and stock up on them. Believe me, they are great munchies, not just for teatime but also while watching television or movies.
Go get a pack and you’ll know why this item is always on my grocery shopping list.
