Take your Time. Review on Brief History of Time, A - Stephen Hawking

Well really, I'm making a hurry as far was writing a review on this book is concerned because I've only just started reading it. But I have read enough to form my impression about it and to write a review on it. Of course, don't expect me to tell you excerpts from the book because I'd be a horrible journalist if I told you that!

Time is something that we all tend to treat as nothing but a measure. We use time only as a parameter to ease our decision making. Sometimes, however, it just so happens that one would like this parameter to be relaxed. But then again, sometimes we want this time to go faster. Time for us is, most of the times, nothing more than what a watch shows.

But time has very different implications in life. One must remember always that existence can be defined in terms of space and time. You can not speak of an existence independent of time, because that would be meaningless. The implications of time don't end just there.

If you look at the sky at night, or even in the day, you are essentially looking back in time. You see stars and planets in the sky. But they are images of how they were many years ago (and minutes in the case of planets and the sun). Morover, each star is an image having it's own age. The ages of two neighbouring stars are very different. But they seem to be beside each other. You are, at night, looking not at the sky, but at the power of time.

Time is not just a measure. It is a power binding this universe. Time is one of the only two basic parameters that can define existence.

But the most shocking declaration this book contains is right in the beginning. It is that time itself has had a point of origin. The revelation that time itself has an origin in the Big Bang and that there was no ''before'' is something that really shocked me damn hard.

And there are very many things beyond this.

You might take time to read this one, but it's worth it. You might use up a lot of grey in the process, but it's worth it. You might spend some money to get this, but it's more than just worth it.

Just read it once. It doesn't take too much of what it tries to explain!
