The most exciting indoor international game. Review on Bridge

I wonder how no one has written any thing about this great internationally acclaimed indoor game. There are two types of bridge play viz. Auction and Contract. While the former is no longer being played, the latter is played most widely and is followed by the IBU (International Bridge Union).

Contract bridge is a game for four players, two of whom sit opposite one another and play as partners against the other two. The four positions are North,South, East and West. North [N] & South [ S] play as partners against East [E] & West[W]playing as partners.

The game is played with one pack of fifty two cards [no jokers] and the cards rank in the order of Ace [highest], followed by King, Queen etc. down to the two [lowest].

There are 4 suits; these are:- in their ranking order, Spades, Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs.

It will take pages to describe the rules of the game and I would advise readers interested in playing bridge to start with a beginner's bridge book such as ''BEGIN BRIDGE'' by G.C.H. Fox. There are other good books which one can search from Internet by using a good search engine.

What makes the game interesting is that the brain gets thoroughly exercised and helps the persons make correct decisions in complex situations. In 80 to 90 % cases good managers/ administrators are excellent bridge players. It also developes intelligence in a person.

What makes the game really interesting is that when the identical deal is being played by different pairs of opponents are entirely different, due to different ways of biddings, table play by the declarer and the defense.

I would recommend the game of bridge to one and all who love indoor games to relax, train their brains and gainfully utilise their spare time.

However, caution should be applied not to get addicted to it, as the game is so exciting that a good player never gets tired of playing this game and many a times neglects his other social duties towards his/ her family members.
