Trying to be different and being different is different. When attempting big and fall, the fall will be big. When trying to be different and didn't reach there, the fall will be different. Break Baad is an example of a film which tried to be different and failed in the attempt.
The movie starts with a promise to be different and we are all set to watch the difference. Starts the indifference of the leading characters, but without any reason. The indifference is in their blood and if a jealous neighbour thought of watching a free show of fight, they are disappointed where the pair don't go over a degree of indifference and soon patch up. The indifference started from their parents and they pass it to the next generation.
Ambitious Aaliya (Deepika Padukone) is all dreaming of becoming an actress. Aditya is settled in the boring office job in his father's company. One who don't take risk, Aditya and always ready to jump Aaliya determined to take a break from their love hate love affair which celebrated not only by the relatives but by beggars as well. Following her dreams, will Aaliya forsake her love? Following his love, will Aditya will find his own self? Are you curious to know as if you don't guess it already, it is an attempt to say a different love story but hardly reach there.
The fault begins from the screen play. The story idea is promising but to covert that to good screenplay needed much skill which the writers missed. Cinema as a visual experience which is a must for any romantic movie is missing here. It was more of a dialogathon. Desperately we seek some break from the continuous dialogues from one scene to the other. The situtations looks compelled and the reasons for breaks were silly and not affective. Direction didn't impress either.
The only consolation in the movie is the presence of two potential stars, Imraan Khan and Deepika Padukone. Thanks to the leading pairs screen presence we may keep our eyes on screen though conveniently skip what they are speaking or doing. Rest of the cast didn't have much to do and they are just ok.
I simply disliked the cinematography of the movie. Focusing on the co star while dialogue is delivered by the other is a bad experiment. Probably the director has to share the blame for a faulty script or the lack of it.
Music didn't impress and ditto for choreography.
Editing is ok.
If the movie is watchable, it is primarily for the screen presence of the leading pair, though there is not much chemistry developed on screen. There are certain situations which stand apart from the general flaw of the movie. The Shahrukh - Sunita roleplay, watchman's comment, Aliya Aditya meeting in the office loo, Aaliya's reaction after the party morning etc. will bring some cheer. If children are taken to theater, free them to talk and you will enjoy their dialogues in the theatre more than the movie, and believe me they give better of a dialogue.
Overall, it is a forgettable fare. Pretty disappointing!
