Today’s generation enjoy watching digitally mixed-special effect movies and games. Neither they nor their parents are really concerned with “What children are actually learning from it…”

What they gain out of it !

Yes, lot of fun…fun and fun…but what they learn… ???

This movie is lesson to all ....how life is tough if we don't have parents around !

That’s why…I am here with a review on simbly superb classic From RK’s wings…

I wonder why nobody has written a review on this classic !

''BOOT POLISH''

Starring: Baby Naaz, Rattan Kumar & David

Music: Shanker Jaikishan

Directed By: Prakash Arora

Produced By: Raj Kapoor

Story…

''BOOT POLISH'' is a touching story of two children who earn their living by polishing shoes in the streets of Bombay. It’s a story of brother-sister who dare to earn living by polishing shoes in Bombay…

What’s great then ?

These kids stop begging which give them easy money comparatively.

Two helpless and poor kids living in slums , Bholaaged 10 and younger sister Beluaged 7. A great lady (?)Kamla Chachi, tries to impart great(!) morals on these kids and trains them to be innocent beggars. Her beatings and abuse never stops.

And here comes John, as their neighbour, who gives them courage and strength to fight this situation. With his sharp words, kids are taken a back but they soon realise the motive and they discover real man , who teaches them “ Bhikh nahi mangna !”

He inspires kids to stop begging and Bhola gets idea of polishing shoes on the streets instead of begging. Kids are transformed. Kamla Chachi throws them out when they can’t bring any money

…And ….heavily pouring rains adds to the disaster ! Belu nearly faints from hunger !

Now…Bhola in dilemma…what to do ?

Earn easy money by begging … to survive in these difficult times !

Or …. ?

I’ll not tell you what happens next….It’s you…who has to discover !

My Comments…

This movie has different story – line.

Direction is good.

Casting of Characters is perfect, they live their characters then it may be Bhlou, Belu, John or Kamla Chachi ( I hated her !).

Movie looks and feels real because of the sets too… It looks like , it has been shot in slums.

Performances are par excellence !

Performances…

Baby Naaz (as Belu) was praised at Cannes, International Film Festival.

Shankar-Jaikishen's music in this film received great appreciation everywhere…How we can forget…”Nanhe Munne Bachhe…” !

Boot Polish bagged Filmfare awards (1954) for Best Picture

Best Supporting Actor - David ( as John)

Best Cinematography - Tara Dutt.

Note :

I strongly feel that this movie is must see for today’s kids who are getting easy money and do not know value of it. ( This is what I see around !)

Hope… after reading this review…Ms-ians attempt to see this movie (with their kids if any or atleast recommend to their friends) once !

Bye

Rekha
