Recently we had to visit US and therefore had to arrange for USD. I didn't feel like approaching various local dealers of foreign currency exchange. Somehow, I always get the feeling afterwards that the exchange rate could have been better and also, I have to visit them to have the transaction.
Then while searching online, I came across the site of bookmyforex.com that had doorstep facility.
Trying to be cautious, I read the reviews on mouthshut before I contacted bookmyforex. Most of the reviews were positive and so I took a chance. And I am glad I did.
I left my phone no. on the site and I was immediately called up by them. They explained the procedure, documents, rates for USD currency and Forex Card. They assured that they would exchange the same back, once I return from US.
I decided to have USD in currency notes as well as Forex Card and both came handy in US. It was all delivered at my home. For order below Rs. 25, 000, home delivery is not there. For order between Rs. 25, 000 & 75, 000, Rs. 100/- is charged. And for orders above Rs. 75, 000, it is free home delivery.
The Forex card that their local dealer gave was of Axis bank and I was told that this card was valid for 5 years and there was to be a charge of USD 5, if the card was unused for one whole year. Which meant, I could use whatever remaining balance was left in Forex card, even during future visits to US, if any.
When I returned to India, I called bookmyforex, to have a refund on my Forex card. Again I received a timely call by them. But then, they told me that to give me a refund on Forex card, they would need 3 days to confirm the rate with the issuing bank.
But I had called them, after checking the current rate. What if the rate gets worse after 3 days? I was told, I could refuse the rate, that they were to tell me after 3 days. I was not happy with this system. I wanted to exchange at the rate for which I had contcted them. I had no choice but to wait for 3 days.
I received a call from their local dealer, 2 days later. He mentioned the same old rate and I agreed since I had no patience to wait and check the rate again. He asked me to provide my bank detail, he deposited the check in my account, in his locality and emailed me the invoice. So, I didn't have to go anywhere and no documents or return of card was needed.
They gave some code on FB to have a discounted rate, but in my case, when I was to return forex card, it did not come handy due to wait of 3 days requirement.
So, a pretty hassle free job, if one is not too concerned about the exact prevailing currency rate.
