I had visited Vellore and stayed at Siva AVM Grande hotel. As per the site, the cost was Rs.7920 plus taxes. But when I was checking out, the bill was Rs. 9633. So, it was like almost Rs.2000 in taxes.They(booking.com site) should clearly mention in booking.com what could be the tax range payable. The guy at the reception told me that booking through booking.com is same as booking over phone(since we do not pay anything over internet). I wished I had asked the reception before checking in, so that I would not have ended paying so much.
