The Opening song of Bombay Talkies is a perfect starter for a movie which pays tribute to 100 years of Bombay Cinema. I say Bombay Cinema because it all started here in Bombay.
Karan Johar
The song is followed by the first story which is directed by Karan Johar. I was surprised the way he made this film. I mean what did he make before this 'Student of the year' which was dud of last year. I was engrossed in the story right from the start. The Haunting songs like Lag ja gale were just amazingly sung by a kid so I guess. The actors were great but it truly was Karan Johar's finest.
P.S: The girl who sits at the platform singing the song will remind you of the girls singing in the train next time please give them some money not for begging because they sang a song for you.
Dibakar Banerjee
This was my favorite of all the stories Nawazuddin Siddiqui was amazing as a father who has failed to find a job and is a failed actor too. He has a business of Emu's where also he has failed. But this failure realizes his fails and maybe comes to term with it.
There is a shot in this movie which was amazingly done by Dibakar.. Its a long shot with no cuts. I guess you should watch it. Dibakar's story is like 'A Day in the life of Mumbai'.
Zoya Akhtar
This one is a fun story of Brother and sister love or sister and sister love. I am confused so was the audience because they didn't knew how to react to a boy who wants to be Shiela because she wants to dance like Shiela. I loved the relation of a brother and sister which never looks down upon you whatever you are. This was a LOVELY one.
Anurag Kashyap
The final chapter of this Talkies was Anurag Kashyap's story about a man coming to Mumbai to meet Amitabh Bachan. Why he comes for what he comes you watch it on the screen but I will tell you one thing after watching this you will realize why the Aura of Big B is so profound.
The sheer charm in the eyes of that man after watching Big B up front is magical and the tragedies attached to meeting him and losing the precious was a great final Chapter to this Beauty of Shorts films series.
Go watch not because it is Centenary of Bombay Cinema but because it's an Excellent Celebration of Cinema.
P.S. There is an extended version of the Bombay Talkies song at the End so wait to walk out.
