IDream Productions''Bollywood/Hollywood'',directed by Deepa Mehta and produced by David Hamilton,stars Rahul Khanna,Lisa Ray,(Late)Dina Phatak,Moushumi Chatterjee,Kulbhushan Kharbanda,Jessica Pare and Akshaye Khanna(in a special appearance).After art movies such as 1947 Earth and Fire,Deepa Mehta is back with a light_hearted movie ''Bollywood Hollywood''.One might refuse to believe that this is a Deepa Mehta film.
Bollywood/Hollywood is the story about Rahul Seth(Rahul Khanna),is a millionaire Indian,who lives in Canada .He promised his father that he would marry an Indian girl before he was dying.After ten years he falls in love with a known,popular popstar Kimberly(Jessica Pare).Rahul tells his grandmother(Dina Pathak)and mother(Moushumi Chatterjee)that he is in love with an American girl.His grandmother and mother always wanted Rahul to marry an Indian girl but Rahul`s grandmother asks Rahul to call the American girl,Kimberly.Rahul is surprised!When Rahul`s grandmother talks to Kimberly,she does not allow Rahul to marry her.Rahul`s mother declares that she would not get his sister married unless he finds an Indian girl.One day,on television,Rahul is watching the news.On the T.V it is reported that Kimberly has died.That day,Rahul is very upsed.Poor and lonely Rahul goes to a bar that night.He drinks a lot!Sue(Lisa Ray)is sitting next to Rahul,over there.Rahul finds out that Sue knows Bollywood and Indian culture very well.Rahul talks to Sue that he would pay her if she would act as if she is a typical indian girl and she loves Rahul,in front of his mother.Sue agrees and then her drama starts.One day Rahul asks Sue,her family background and asks about her.Sue tells Rahul that her father(Kulbhushan Kharbanda)was getting her married to a strange,fat man named Killer Khalsa.She didn`t wanted to marry him that is why she ran away.Rahul tells Sue that he loves her and Sue also admits that she loves him.Then,their love story begins!
Deepa Mehta`s direction is superb.After serious,art movies she has proved that she can handle light_hearted movies very well.The cinematography is amazing!Sandeep Chowta`s music is another plus point.Specially ''Rang Rang''and''Sona Sona Roop Hai''are excellent.Jaideep`s lyrics are good!
And now the performances!Rahul Khanna as Rahul Seth is very good.He acts very well and looks nice and stylish.Lisa Ray is amazing as Sue.Her dialogue delivery,her face expressions and performance is superb.She looks gorgeous.Late Dina Pathak was very cute as Rahul`s grandmother.She has acted very well and she will always be remembered for her performance in this flick.Moushummi Chatterjee looks very cute as Rahul`s mother specially in the scenes where she starts to cry. Her performance is very good!Kulbushan Kharbanda`s performance as Sue`s father is also appreciatable.Jessica Pare lends commendable support.Akshaye Khanna is the surprise package in the film.He makes an appearance in the song Sona Sona Roop Hai.It`s good to see him in the song with a beauty,Lisa Ray.
On the whole,Bollywood/Hollywood is a sweet romantic comedy movie.It is a movie not to be missed.Specially,teenagers and young people are going to love this film!So,what are you waiting for?Go right now and see this movie!
