Bollywood Calling is the latest offering from Nagesh Kukunoor. The movie is actually a parody on Indian movies but strangely is not better than any of those movies ridiculed in it.

It targets the 1980 Indian cinema. ''Kutthe! Mein tera khoon peejaoonga'' is not heard any more in any Hindi movie. Most of the scenes depicted in this parody are an exaggerated version of the bygone era of Indian movies.

However, having said that I must give some credit to Nagesh for taking up a refreshing new project. It is not a revolutionary new line cinema. It is yet another Bollywood offering but definitely falls on the sane side of the thin line that separates movies like Mela from movies like Zakhm.

Bollywood Calling has a beaten to death plot. If you take out the movie making part of this film, the story goes somewhat like this. Pat, divorced, suffering from cancer, has only six months to live, goes to a strange place and meets some nice people, comes back and fights cancer, his body ''miraculously'' starts responding to the treatment and he is united with his former wife.

It is a humorous movie. It is not anywhere near Hyderabad Blues but is of course scores better than Rockford. Om Puri is excellent in the role of a humble movie director. You can watch the fillum just for him.

I gave the movie a rating of 3 because it falters on the same lines of the movies it ridicules. :)

Nagesh jee... next time try something truly different!
