Unfortunately, I had been to the place this afternoon with 2 of my friends. The place itself looks dingy and the hand wash bucket kept above a broken manhole indicates the amount of carelessness by the owner who doesn't bother to install a basic wash basin with a tap and soap. There was an extremely rude nepali boy at the door with small slips of paper telling everybody to write their names and their orders and wait for their turns. Most customers like us were waiting in the hot sun outside as if they had come to get free food. I was still patient.Inside the shack, it was smoky, dark and completely devoid of any welcome signs whatsoever. We ignored all this as we had heard some real good claims about the food there. Let me describe that as well in detail.
I will describe each dish we had ordered and readers who have tasted true Punjabi food can decide for themselves:
Shahi Paneer: Ultra small (around 1cmX1cm) paneer cubes soaked in tomato puree. To me, it was the worst I had ever had.
Baigan ka bharta: Tomatoes ground to paste, mixed with onion paste and garnished with butter. Where is Baigan in this??
Pyaaz parantha: Uncooked, raw flour with raw onions in it, again garnished with butter.
Curd, like some one said, Britannia Curd, for heaven's sake.
Buttermilk. Nandini buttermilk further diluted with water and salt added, served in, this is only authentic thing in that place, tall Punjabi tumblers.
Horrendous to say the least. Like someone has rightly written, adding butter to everything and serving buttermilk doesn't make food Punjabi food. That sums up my experience of the horrible, dirty, smoky, dingy and tasteless hotel called Bobby Da Dhaba. He, or whoever the owner is, insulting Punjabi food by degrading it to such low standards.
