…..and here are the results of a questionnaire which asked people what they thought of Bluffmaster, the new film directed by Rohan Sippy and produced by Ramesh Sippy:

A Random Cinema-goer - “What a waste of money (which could have gone towards buying shoes)! What a waste of time (which could have been used in shoe shopping)! What a waste of a date (I could have got him to buy me shoes)!”

Riteish Deshmukh - “Rubbish! Director ne mujhe total bluff kiya tha, varna main yeh film kabhi nahi karta! Abhishek ki kasam, main jaanbhujhkar yeh film kyun karoonga? Mujhe koi heroine bhi nahi mili…”

Chandra - “Abhishek …my Abhi jaanu …Abhi…huh? The film? Oh, right…errr it had Abhi in it!!!”

Abhishek Bachchan - “Mujhse kyun pooch rahe ho? Aap sabh to jaante hain ki main hi asli Bluffmaster hoon :P”

Me :)“Aajkal saare ke saare directors, producers aur etc.waale screw-dheele ho gaye hain…kuch bhi mental filmein banaate hain!”

Priyanka Chopra - “The music is a total sell-out! Abhishek should sing more often. If only I had sung as well, then the album would have been a double sell-out! And the movie was….an experience?”……

Lies…life is full of them. Tell a lie and you may have to create a whole web of a hundred untruths to cover. They make life complicated, yet so interesting…you’ll find lies in every catalogue, around every corner, in every review…Let me confess now, the above “questionnaire” was a total lie! :D Sorry for the mayhem, lekin karna pada :P

I dedicate this revu to Chandra because…er…I said I would? Na, its coz she’s a five star friend :D

The Truth and the 5 Taare Rating

This has to be best films I’ve seen all year, what with the misguided Yash Raj crew producing utter nonsense for the last 12 months and barely much else left worth watching. There was not a single scene in Bluffmaster that made me bored, and to maintain a person who has the attention span of a fly’s concentration throughout the film is quite an achievement.

Anyone who has heard the album will have noticed that the songs are of a different kind, and they totally rock. Anyone who has watched the trailers will have noticed that Abhishek and Priyanka look amazing ( they even made that politician ka puttar look half-decent shock horror). And anyone who has watched the movie will have noticed that everything from the acting to the directing was superb!

Kahaani Poori Filmi Hai…

There’s not much I can give away about the story without actually spilling the beans (ooo, I finally get ur little motto Karthik!). But here goes:

Roy (Abhishek Bachchan) is a conman, master of the swindling and ace “fisher-man” (what? You’ll have to watch the movie to understand :)). His whole life consists of lies. But there is one truth that is greater than any of those lies; one truth that he will do anything for: that is his love for Simmi (Priyanka Chopra).

One fine day, involving a few men dressed up as police and some daraana-dhamkaana, he tricks a famous film producer into giving up a small fortune of his wealth. Unfortunately, this producer happens to be a close friend of Simmi’s family. Simmi finds out the truth about Roy on their engagement day, and in true filmi fashion, eradicates her ring ;)…Poor Roy (I mean, he’s still rich and everything) is left heart-broken and not sure about what to do.

Whilst hopelessly trying to win back Simmi, he comes across a total cartoon who goes by the name of Dittu ( alias Riteish Deshmukh…I told you he was a cartoon :P). He’s a failure at conning, and begs Roy to take him up as a pupil and help his to master the art of bluffing. Roy ultimately decides to help Dittu, despite knowing that in doing so he will fall further in Simmi’s eyes.

Confusions and many hilarities follow, even when Roy finds out something that changes his outlook on life forever…Does Simmi ever forgive Roy? Do they end up dancing around on terrace-tops? Does Dittu ever learn how to fish without falling in the water? Does a fight ensue at the end where Dittu gives up his life to save Roy’s? To find out…watch the movie!

The Acting…

Abhishek Bachchan::: He was fantastic- Great style, interaction with other characters, dialogue delivery and everything else! I don’t think anyone could do the role of the Bluffmaster the way he did. His expression towards the end were fab, I just loved them…Plus I think he and Priyanka share really good chemistry (Sorry Chandra :P). Roles such as these suit Abhishek well, and I think they’re the best chances for AB to prove himself to the world and show everyone that he has everything needed to make him tomorrow’s superstar!

Riteish Deshmukh::: I never thought I’d say this, but he was actually good in this film! Even though he can’t play cool (or kool) for toffee, and looks better with sunglasses on, he’s not that bad. Maybe it’s because in this film he doesn’t have a heroine to “romance” with. :)

Priyanka Chopra::: She looks ever so pretty in this film, maybe because she’s presented really well. I love all her outfits! And as for her acting, I thought it was really natural…surely she’s proved by now that she’s not just a pretty face :) her character was quite a contrast to the one she played in Aitraaz!

Nana Patekar::: I won’t say much about him apart from the fact that he was hilarious! Especially after the climax, where he’s sitting with an umbrella!

Boman Irani::: I think the role of the doctor has stuck to him, as he plays…ji haan, a doctor in this film. Although his jokes don’t make sense, he is still really funny. I really liked the scene at the Gateway with Abhishek, it was très sweet…

Other Comments…

I’ve heard (actually, read) that a lot of this movie is copied off some other Hollywood one. But taking into account that I haven’t watched the other one, and don’t ever plan to, I think Bluffmaster was a great entertainer in itself! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it…unless you’re like my mummy dearest, then you won’t :P But seriously, this film is sooo much better than BnB, and if that nonsense became a hit then I don’t see how this can’t! Bluffmaster just proved that if you want to make a success film it doesn’t have to be a semi-porn movie…
