In the year 1949 a supposedly ship called Lady in Blue sank near Bahamas. The ship was carrying a treasure, which was returned to India by the British. The captain of the ship, who survives, was stripped of all the honors, lost his job & commits suicide.

Some six decades later begins the game of the treasure hunt in Bahamas. One man knows the whereabouts of the treasure but has his reservations of not going there.

Another person wants the treasure & would go down to any length to get it. He weaves a yarn that propels the former to retrieve the treasure.

Does he want the treasure for the sake of money? Or is there any other motive behind it? Because his quest for the treasure is not the greed, it’s something else, which was explained in the last 10 minutes of the film & it does make sense.

A. R. Rehman has scored some wonderful tunes, which goes well with the mood of the film.

Like hundreds of Hindi films Blue too is a victim of weak screenplay. Such plots require crispy script, which was missing to an extent.

This being the only weak cog in the wheel the rhythm of entertainment doesn’t get interrupted. Co-writer & director Anthony D’souza has succeeded in keeping the interest alive right from the word go till the finale, though the finale could have been written in a crispier manner.

In a country where majority of people prefer to follow the tried & tested formula while making film to earn money, what should one do when someone makes an attempt to do something different? Applaud the effort or watch the film with a microscopic view, find few loose points & then elaborate them to run down the film?

Blue directed by debutant director Anthony D’souza is one such attempt, which is presented in style & filmed in the world that has never been explored to this length before by anyone in India.

Honestly speaking, the premise of the film is such that it heavily depends on the technical aspects, stunning stunts, top notch photography & the actor who can carry the film on his shoulders. And the makers score full marks in all the required four departments.

There is hardly anything for the heroines in the film. Zayed Khan has a good role & did justice to it. Rahul Dev is flawless. He looks cool & delivers a top notch performance. Sanjay Dutt though did a good job but he looks a little over weight.

Akshay Kumar is brilliant. He continues to perform to perfection & proves once again that he is capable of carrying the film on his shoulders.

I have been working in the shipping industry since 1991 & didn’t know that sea can be so beautiful. The under sea treasure hunt is an adventurous journey, which we all should experience at least once.
