First what exactly is Blu Ray-Blu-ray Disc(official abbreviation BD) is an optical disc storage medium designed to supersede the DVD format. The format defines as its standard physical media a 12 cm(same as DVDs), 25 GB per-layer optical disc, with dual layer discs(50 GB) the norm for feature-length video discs and additional layers possible later. The name Blu-ray Disc refers to the "blue laser" used to read the disc, which allows for six times more storage than on a DVD.In a nutshel its upgradation from DVD as it happened from VHS to VCDs and then DVDs.It has full 1920x1080p high definition resolution and one can enjoy theater quality clarity at home.Buy a reasonably good home theater system with good speakers and a LEd panel or projector and you are all set.

Now the big question is which player to buy.Lot of people do not know that these players are coming with "Region Coding".That means if you buy a player in India, it will be coded as Region "C' and it can play only titles released in India.I would recommend a Panasonic DMP -BD 45 region A player which is easily available in grey market or if you travel abroad buy it overseas.The advantage is it can play hollywood titles and the good thing is now a days all the titles released in India are "All Region" means these can play on any player.Please do not buy any Indian Player otherwise you will be stuck and you will not be able to play many hollywood flicks.You can buy many movies from Amazon which are not released in India.Also many hindi movies are getting released on Blu ray format.
