If you want a fun, clean humoured film suitable for all ages, Blast From the Past is a great choice.

The story is about the Webber family. Calvin Webber is a bit eccentric and is having a party one night when there’s a bomb scare heard on the radio. The party is cut short and Cavin takes his wife down to his bomb shelter that he has built. When he hears a bang he assumes that there has been a bomb explosion and locks the shelter doors on a timer for 35 years. What he doesn’t know is that it was just an aeroplane crashing in their garden (just – not like that happens every day is it!). Their son Adam is born in the shelter and when the door unlocks 35 years later Adam goes up to Los Angeles to get food and supplies and also to look for a wife. Because he has been shut in with his parents for 35 years he has been brought up properly and has no idea what Los Angeles is like. He meets Eve who helps him buy food and supplies. Adam and Eve manage to get together by the end of the film and build a new house for Adam’s parents to get them out of the shelter!

Brendan Fraser plays Adam. He is great as a polite naïve 35 year old man. Adam is a very funny character who doesn’t understand the way of life in this century. He treats everyone with respect, especially women (wouldn’t it be nice if it were still like that!). He meets Eve when he takes some football cards in to sell, she works in the shop and tells him that his cards are worth a lot of money. Eve is played by Alicia Silverstone who is also very funny. They act very well together.

Calvin Webber (Adam’s dad) is played by Christopher Walken. His character is completely mad. He is very over protective of his family and is the family genius. The shelter he built was amazing. Built just like his house and even with a garden (even though it was all underground).

Helen Webber is played by Sissy Spacek who played the typicall 60’s housewife.

Both Sissy and Cavin are played only by one actor and make up is used to make them look older. Very good make-up artist!!! There are four different actors who play Adam including the eldest Brendan Fraser.

The sets in this film are great, they have all of the 1960’s furniture and clothes. Adam looks very out of place until Eve takes him shopping!

Blast From the Past is a great film for all ages, everyone will enjoy it. It has good clean humour and a great storyline. A good family film.
