Value for Money:

I purchased my Blackberry Play Book 16GB from an online shop and it was delivered to me on 22 May2012 .I was eagerly waiting for it for about 5 days, and was a bit tense because website was not so popular, and I already paid the amount.

Unboxed and switched ON the PB, but in the start up I ran into a lot of issues .

Initially the PB collects the user info and some details like email ID, it will prompt for the OS update to 2.0.358(latest at the time of buying) and starts trying for an available WiFi connection and if it is connected, the OS update starts downloading which having size is 513MB.Unfortunately, the update failed several times without any apparent reason.I was very frustrated as I spent almost a whole day doing this, but I was looking if I could continue with the version already installed, but the PB has no option to select this. Googled a lot, and then I called up customer care at -000-800-1007-985 which seems to be toll free, the CC fellow was very helpful, I followed his instructions and used the alternate channel for this OS update- through Black Berry Desktop platform which needs to be installed on your PC( XP with service pack3 and above, mine is WIN7). PC to PB communication uses USB. The OS download will take several minutes to hours depends on your speed, I found that about 1GB data has been transferred when it was complete;and the Desktop SW will install automatically install OS on to the BB.

Ohh!!! I am there. The installation was successful. Rest of the settings are rather easy and you will be taken through some Demos etc. From there on, its rocking...

I have started it, the overall performance felt is great and its a value for money product.

The pros are:

1)The OS seems to be good in multitasking.

2)The processor is 1GHz, has features like 1080p video playback.

3)The touch screen performance is good.

4)Camera gives good quality pictures when taken in good ambient light.

Cons:

1)Not too many applications available like in android devices.

2)Bluetooth cannot be used for file transfer.

3)No 3g. However, its not a problem at this price;else you may be shelling out another Rs.10K-15K for a tab supporting 3G SIM.

Recommendation:

If you purchase it from an online shop and if the tab fails in OS update/Wi Fi issues, you will be in peril. This is an initial show stopper, one would expect to start with a installed OS on day1 and then update on the go;-But PB will not let you do this.
