I have been a loyal Blackberry user for 7 years. I bought the newly launched Blackberry Torch 9810 in Oct'11 believing the hype around the OS7, robust build, etc. for around Rs. 30, 000/- from Croma. By Dec'11 the phone was hanging often, and needed to be hard-booted(remove battery, put it back, restart) each time. I took it to the Redington service center at Khar (open only 10.30 am to 5 pm, how do you manage on a working day?) where they told me its a s/w glitch, and upgraded the s/w on the spot. The phone does not hang now.
In Jan'12, the phone started giving audio problems. It rings for an incoming call, but when you accept the call, you cannot hear anything. Similarly, when you call someone, there is no audio whereby you hear the person's phone ring or what what he is saying. Solution - hard boot the phone each time this happens, then it works ok for a couple of hours until the problem reoccurs. I took it back to Redington who told me its a hardware issue and phone needs to go to Blackberry service center so will take 7-8 working days.
NO STANDBY PHONE WAS OFFERED, WHEN REQUESTED WAS INFORMED THAT NONE IS AVAILABLE. THIS APPROACH FOR A HIGH END CUSTOMER WHO PAID RS.30, 000 JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO, PHONE IS WELL WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD.
The phone was returned after a week - after arranging to collect it on a working day. The audio problem is unchanged. I will be taking it back to the Redington outlet today.
How pathetic can Blackberry's service approach be?
