AD/DC-Black Ice
May 25, 2009 04:33 PM 2940 Views

Originality:

AC/DC is an Australian Rock band. They are believed to have started the Rock n Roll movement and in the 35th year of their existence, what we get is Black Ice. ‘Different’ would probably be the word completely unknown to this band as they continue to stick to the same formula they did 35 years ago. Some things which are not meant for change are usually brilliant. AC/DC is an example of brilliance and they have not changed anything about their music over a long period of time.

This record reminds me a lot about their record “Back in Black” made after the Bon Scott era. Time and time again their music represents topics like women, alcohol, rock n roll and sex. This one is not any different from the previous ones. AC/DC released their most awaited album after 8 long years in October 2008 and it has been worth the wait.

Having as many as 15 tracks running for 55:31 minutes, it would better to mention only the most recommended tracks. “Rock ‘n’ Roll Train” starts with mid paced guitar riffs is a winner all the way with a structure similar to “Highway to hell” until the chorus. Next follows “Skies on Fire” with and amazing intro of guitar, you can’t help but admire the pre-chorus and the solo. “Big Jack” is a track that is hard to dislike and rolls into resonating chords and drums.

Very notable are the use of slide guitar chords, a pleasure to hear. Next I would jump to “War Machine”, a track that starts off with a haunting chord progression and then really steps up the pace. If you are trying hard to find a ballad in this record then it has got be “Rock ‘n’ Roll Dream”. A lot of emphasis on blues can be noticed in this track. “Black Ice” is another song worth mentioning as it has a tendency to grow and you want to hear it over and over again. The remaining tracks although not so memorable, are just as good as the others.

Lead vocalist Brian Johnson hits controlled high notes and gives a performance that could rupture the vocal chords of any singer. Angus Young is sound of rock n roll on guitar. His solos are basic and perfect while Brother Malcom Young hits on amazing riffs. Cliff Williams on bass and Phill Rudd’s brilliant drum rolling keep the album kicking real hard.

Now the reason why I feel Black Ice is one of AC/DC’s best is because they have taken their time and haven’t released a record to make annual sales but just to say that they have written enough music to record an album. Once again, it’s evident that they are still the rock n roll legends and bands trying to ape their music belong to the bars and pubs around the continent. AC/DC, take a bow!!
