What can be said of a movie, which is made with utmost courage and sheer determination? A complete contrast to what is made in bollywood, these days. No song, no dance, no ?exposure??need to know more?.NO SOUND, NO COLOURS, virtually.

But BLACK is one movie that has the power to captivate your soul. It has such an audacity that it castes its spell on you as the movie unwinds. What we normally say after watching a good movie is that ?we can relate to it?. But in this case we are unable to say that either. It?s a different world altogether. A world where everything is black?everything is dumb.

There is this 6 yr old girl who is deaf and blind?. such an extreme of disability. Her name is Michelle McNally. She belongs to a very rich family, with her parents so helpless that in spite of being so wealthy they cant do anything for their child. They have almost lost hope ?.

And one day her mother hears of this teacher Debraj Sahay (He worked in a school for blind and deaf-blind but now he is unemployed). Michelle?s parents approaches him to train their daughter and he takes up the challenge.

Now starts the real play. The first step he takes is to teach her manners and how to FEEL the word ?water??.yes you heard it right. This is how such children learn to speak (somewhat). Debraj holds Michelle?s hands and takes it up to his lips so that she can feel the word??coz she cant hear and neither can she see. Slowly and gradually she learns new things, clears her school and now the challenge is to get an admission in a university. She clears the interview and gets an admission. Debraj accompanies her to college, attends the classes with her, whatever the teacher dictates is translated into sign language by him. But still Michelle fails to clears the exams for three subsequent years.

In the due course Debraj also turns old and shows signs on Alzheimer?s disease. And now a twist happens in the story that Debraj is forced to leave Michelle. Now she learns on her own and finally becomes a graduate at the age of 40. And now for her utter disappointment she finds her teacher Debraj badly affected by Alzheimer?s that he don?t even remember his own bed in the hospital. He has turn too old and his condition is deteriorated to such a stage that he even forgets his name.

Firstly Debraj teaches Michelle and helps her acquire her own identity. But now Debraj himself does not have an identity of his own. He is a complete stranger for himself. It's now Michelle?s turn to pay back. The movie ends with the scene where Michelle teaches Debraj the first word?.WATER!!! It culminates on a note that there is a long journey ..still to go where Michelle and Debraj have to hold hands once again, till the end.

This movie is very different from the run of the mill stuff. It needs a real bravo like Sanjay Leela Bhansali even to touch such a subject. He has done his job with utmost perfection. But the real heroes of the movie are Amitabh Bachchan (Debraj Sahay), Rani Mukherjee (Michelle McNally) and Ayesha Kapoor (young Michelle). They all acted so well that at times we tend to forget that they are these famous actors. No songs are there in the movie, but still the background score deserves special mention. Camera work and use of lights holds special importance in making this movie does not look dull. All character actors have performed extremely well.

This movie is the sure shot Oscar entry from India for this year?.have a bet on this. And I hope we can win it without much difficulty ?coz it has nothing anti-British as Lagaan had. I remember Sanjay once saying in his interview that this movie will take Indian Cinema 10 steps ahead?and I totally agree with him. KUDOS to Sanjay, Rani, Amitabh and Ayesha?we all love you?.for the efforts you have put in to make such a CLASSIC.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
