It could have been better. Review on Black - Bollywood

Black - with all the rave reviews given in advance I had no choice but to go and see it. Yes there is absolutely no doubt that the acting was of a very high standard - of almost all the main characters. A lot of homework had been doneby the cast and the director. I have no disputes with that. But where was the need to bring in all those screams, the melodrama and the loudness. It is an obvious ploy to wrench the tears, to make the women bring out their handkerchiefs and perhaps to give it a greater chance at the Oscars. Mr. Bansali has, I think, had an eye on the box office while making the movie. A restrained and an even tone in the telling of the story would have actually appealed much more to the public and would have been definitely appreciated - at least by the thinking people in the audience. Its not that he has put anything to appeal to the fron benchers but neither has he really tried to appeal to the intellectual. Thats why I say that the movie could have been better.
