Our weddings are incomplete without the photographers and video shooters. Often, the bride/groom’s closest kin/friend doesn’t get a clear view of marriage rituals as the videographers tend to occupy the ‘best-view’ spot. And no one can question or kick them away. After all, they are recording one of life’s most precious and memorable moments. Bittoo Boss, from the producers of Pyaar Ka Punchnama, throws light on one such ‘video shooter’ in a small town of India and how his life turns upside down with certain events in his life. Resting on an interesting premise, Bittoo Boss sadly fails to impress because of lack of humour and neat execution. A good opportunity lost!
The story of the movie: Bittoo (Pulkit Samrat) is the no.1 wedding videographer in the small town of Anandpur in Punjab. The demand for his services is so huge and profound that people cancel/postpone their weddings if he is not available! Although a bit egoistic and voyeuristic, Bittoo is kind-hearted and is happy to know that he’s capturing life’s most beautiful moments and in turn spreading smiles. He falls for a rich girl, Mrinalini (Amita Pathak) who too loves Bittoo but realizes he needs to rise about shooting shaadis in order to have a financially secure future. However, this results in a tiff between the two and Bittoo is compelled to take a shortcut or rather an unethical route to success. Watch Bittoo Boss to find out what happens next!
Contrary to popular beliefs, Bittoo Boss is diametrically opposite to Tanu Weds Manu and Band Baaja Baaraat although all 3 films deal with North India and marriages. Bittoo Boss belongs to a different league and deals with a different topic altogether. Sadly, the film fails to reach the standards of the aforementioned films chiefly because most of the situations are uninteresting. The ones that impress are few and far in between. The opening scenes (Bittoo’s entry) was strictly okay but film then picks up in Bittoo’s scenes with Amita. ‘Kaun Kenda’ song is surely the highpoint of the first hour. The confrontation minutes before the intermission makes for an interesting watch and one hopes the second half will be better. And the second half does have moments that could have made the film a magnificent entertainer. Instead, the direction fails to do justice to the script. The sting operation episode in the climax also fails to impress.
The performances thankfully save the film. Pulkit Samrat does remind of Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor but manages to carve his own niche. The actor is definitely a great performer and excels with ease in difficult scenes. A talent to watch out for! Amita Pathak, who debuted with Haal-E-Dil and produced Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, looks ravishing and delivers a fine performance. Sadly, she doesn’t have much to do in the second half. An actor that certainly deserves more chances so that she can prove her worth! Rajender Sethi (Bittoo Boss ka boss) was as usual. Same goes for Mohan Kapoor. The actors who play Mohan Kapoor’s daughter, her boyfriend, Babbooji, his son and manager, Goldy, Shakuntala and Chotelal were too good! However, the best actor of the film is Ashok Pathak, who plays Bicky, Bittoo’s sidekick in Shimla! His antics raised maximum laughs! Easily the surprise of the film!
Raghav Sachar’s music gels well with the film. Kaun Kenda is the best song of the lot followed by title song, Audi, Kick Lag Gayi and Mann Jaage. Maneesh Narayan Bhatt’s cinematography is eye-catching. His Ragini MMS type scenes were a treat to watch! Amar Mohile’s background score was alright. Gautam Mehra’s dialogues were funny and quite smart at places. Supavitra Babul’s story was quite interesting without doubt. But his screenplay with Gautam Mehra could have been better. And Babul’s direction too wasn’t upto the mark. Having been a cameraman himself, Babul has incorporated some of his personal experiences in the film too but he should have ensured that significant scenes don’t start dragging and thereby lose its sheen. However, he executed the songs very well. Hope he does a better job in his next film!

On the whole, Bittoo Boss has an interesting story to say but the direction and script mar the experience. Debutant Pulkit Samrat shows promise and the songs too are a plus point. The film will surely have a tough time at the box office. So unfortunate!
