Billi Barber, the latest film by Red Chilies Entertainment got released last week on a Friday. The weekend naturally was overlooking on to some huge success because of King Khans presence in the film but Alas! I came to know a short while ago that it disappointed many. Well to put it correctly, when I watched the film on Valentine’s day as part of my celebration, I got disappointed too.

The storyline was sweet and crisp. It was based on a barber called Billu (Irfan Khan). This man was a simple poor fellow who had two children and a wife (Lara Dutta) to feed. But quite ironically he was not good in hair designing and cutting and hence was quite out casted as a professional.

As a result he was rightly mocked but was hugely admired as a true gentleman. The sweet nuances of the barber and the daily core of the village life as portrayed in the film is quite enjoyable. Every means how Billu escapes the debts at different quarter is praiseworthy and has a typical touch of Priyadarshan in to it.

The barber who had nothing by God’s grace was bestowed with a heavenly friendship which he never used as a weapon to achieve anything in life. Billu was the childhood friend of Sahir Khan, the bollywood Superstar.

But he was of the opinion that Sahir Khan (Shahrukh Khan) is a superstar but he should not meet him with his poverty stricken status to degrade Sahir’s popularity and to hurt his own inferiority complex further. He was afraid lest Sahir refuses to acknowledge their friendship.

But as luck would have it, one day Sahir comes to his village only to shoot for his film. Now, suddenly all the villagers come to know of this friendship and requests Billu to help them to meet Sahir Khan. Though all the villagers are keen to take advantage of this friendship but Billu refuses to help. Finally on his Wife’s insistence he gives in and also plays with the rumor.

Finally villagers get impatient and disgraced him but one day Sahir himself accidentally acknowledges their friendship during a speech in the village gathering and everything comes into clear. Of course then the film ends with a happy note and a kind of a fairy tale moral attached to it.

Yes this narrative seems fine and obviously the storyline will look positive to pull the crowd. But quite surprisingly this time I guess people is getting unhappy with Priyadarshan as he does not only try to depict such a nice story in a simple way but intermittently appoints Sharukh khan to play larger than life non sense to turn off the flow.

Yes had he not done that and utilized Shahrukh to the fullest with all his cuddly steps the film would have been an absolute charming one. Don’t know how did Shahrukh also as a producer approve of all the “Om Shanti Om” mixes in this storyline where it actually causes indigestion. Well Music is also average in comparisons to Pritams’ other songs.

Irfan Khan is an asset to the film. Pros will be the storyline and comedy sequences. So, on the whole it is a yellow signal to Billu. It is an average film.
