Boy, is this fantastic or what ! One of the most beautiful movies I've seen all year. A full 7-course feast.
Two young men beginning life- and not just any two men, but THE Ernesto ''Che''Guevara of the Cuban revolution, and his friend, set out to explore the great South American continent, on their motorcycle -The mighty Poderosa. Of course, this is before Che becomes the renowned figure that he is known as-here he is just a rather intense, serious young chap.
Its in Spanish, with English subtitles, which means you will spend the first viewing of the film mostly reading the subtitles at the bottom of the screen and glancing up quickly to catch brief glimpses of the action. But then you will have to see it again, to actually see the movie. Was worth watching more than once, anyway.
Argentina, and most of the rest of South America you will see is so heartbreakingly fine, I have been plotting my next holiday there ever since.
Gael Garcia Bernal as Che, is familiar from Amores Perros, and just as much on fire here - you can't look away from this guy. And mucho genial warmth from Rodrigo De La Serna as his medico buddy. This is one of the best buddy movies I've seen , bar none.
And if you can't get enough of the movie, the DVD specials have pictures from the trip of the real Guevara, and interviews with his buddy, in addition to interviews with the lead actor Bernal.
