Big basket is an online grocery purchasing app or site as one can say where you order fruits, vegetables, household items and groceries including personal care products and they are delivered to your doorstep at a nominal price of rs 30.
But it is not as simple as it seems. I downloaded the big basket app for the first time in kolkata. The prices are as high compared to local markets. So I stopped using the app. But when I shifted to Bangalore I noticed that it is cheaper compared to locals because bangalore is a little expensive city when it compares to groceries.
I wasted half an hour in adding products to my cart and when it came to check out page they are saying that few items are not in stock. This could have been done in the beginning stage only like in other online shopping apps and there should not be the option to add them to cart only. Anyways after this there was an offer for the first time users where for a minimum purchase of 500 they will give 20% discount when paid through certain bank. I was eligible for the offer as I had the card of the bank. Again after adding products worth 500 they showed me an error that certain products are not eligible for the first time user offer. Again those were removed from the cart and I again had to add more products of the same value to gain from the offer. After wasting more time I added my cart with a value of 500.
Again when I went for payment my code was applied successfully and was told that I would be given the discount on the payment page. I entered my details and on the payment page also the full gross amount was shown. I tried calling the customer care but was unable to get through so I had a chat with them! Now they are saying that since payment was not done the order is transferred to cash on delivery. I told them I wanted to use the offer of online payment and was replied that there payment team takes an hour to update the payment status and only after then can I pay online! I again waited and the second time the payment failed and the customer care representatives were least bothered to even understand my query and gave me only copy paste replies. They were asking me my card details and denied. I told them to cancel my order and they did not even do that.
After trying for another half an hour I was able to cancel my order. So in a nutshell to purchase some vegetables I had to waste 2 hours of my time. In that much time I could have gone to the locals and purchased them. So it is a waste of time using big basket and after such a first time experience I would never suggest it to anyone.
