Big TV: I don't think so!. Review on Big TV

I am a resident of Cox Town, Bangalore, and I have to admit that the South Special offer is indeed very tempting. You just pay INR 2190 for a year!

So, after comparing all DTH providers(Dish, TataSky, Airtel and BIG TV), I decided to go ahead with BIG Tv and bought the set top box and starter kit on 17-Oct. I was asked to call customer care, give them my smart card no and to place an installation request.

I promptly called the customer care, placed a request, got my work order num(all on the same day), and was told that within 72 hrs an engineer will call, and within a week the installation will be done.

But this is where the sad part started. The BIG Tv box is still lying in my living room in exactly the same way I got it from the Reliance retailer(Airport Road, Bangalore). No call came from their end(till now also, no calls from their end). I called them again last evening after waiting for almost 15 mins listening to the Reliance tune over the phone. I was told that today(22-Oct) by 10 am somebody from their end will call me. Nobody did.

Right now, I just got off the phone after talking to one of their customer care execs(again I had to wait for almost 10 mins). I have been given a complaint number and have been told that tomorrow I should get a call from the engineer and within 48 hours the installation should be done. Well, I have my fingers crossed.

My personal advice to those who are looking to get DTH:

Agreed that Big Tv is very reasonably placed, but their customer care really sucks. Maybe because they're new and all that, but that should've been planned. Especially by a big player like Reliance. Secondly, I am mighty pissed with the installation process. It's taking too long - and the worst part, these guys haven't lived up to their commitments and deadlines. Not expected from Reliance cos they talk about principles in all their ads! What hypocrisy!

So, think twice, you think you got the patience and the luck factor, go for Big Tv - because a lot of us seem to have suffered at the installation request phase(I seriously hope some Big Tv guy reads the reviews in this site!). Otherwise, take the alternative DTH services.

I will update this review with the incidents that happen going-forward.

23Oct08 Update:

I got a call from the Big TV customer care(wow!) from the same person I spoke to last evening. She inquired if I'd received any call from their service engineers and I said no(I hadn't). So, she told me that tomorrow the engineer will come to my place directly and will call me before coming. She gave me her word for it. All I could do was thank her and hope that her word was good.

24Oct08 Update:

Just got a call from the Big TV engineer. He said that they'll come and do the installation today - "guaranteed" was the word he used. I asked him what time he's coming and he said that he couldn't say that right now. But again, he said he'll call me half and hour in advance before he comes to my place for installation. Looks like it's finally happening!:)

I waited till 6:30 PM but those guys never showed up. In the end, I called them up and they told me that they couldn't come today as their "equipment stock" had got over. I blasted them nicely and I was promised that tomorrow the installation will be done without fail.

25Oct08 Update:

I started calling the service engineer from 11am in the morning. Finally, they turned up at around 6PM. Again, they were blasted really nicely. Anyway, my BIG TV installation is finally complete, exactly 8 days after I bought the set top box and after a lot of calls and frustration. My personal suggestion still remains unchanged. The picture quality is good, the sound is quality is good too. And on my 26inch LCD, it looks really fabulous:)
