My childhood was one filled with stories. My great grandmother was a storyteller and she made me one as well.
When I was younger, she coloured my world with stories, about princesses from rice stalk, spirits of the mountain or the machete man who cut off children?s heads in order to bury them along the death rail tracks to appease the angry spirits.
There was a time when such stories were passed down from one generation to the other and there was a time when we believed such stories but in today?s age of cynicism, such stories are losing their charm.
Big Fish is exactly about that. A child losing interest in his father's stories, becoming cynical...becoming an adult.

Tim Burton famous for creating beautiful yet a little twisted, magical films like 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'Sleepy Hollow' scored really well with this film. He created one of the same mystical loveliness, but also adds something else to the screen that is sometimes hard to find in other Burton films. The story of a boy, William Bloom (played By Billy Crudup) grown to a man, without ever knowing who his father truely is.
Will?s father, Edward Bloom (Albert Finney) was one who told stories about his youth, amazing, unbelievable stories, ones which contained giants, witches, conjoined twins? And such. When he was younger, Will enjoyed the stories, begging his father to tell them to him again and again. But as he got older, he grew bored with them and then annoyed. This annoyance drove them apart.
After three years of not speaking to his father, he receives a phone call telling him that his father is dying. Before his father dies, he wants to find out who this man really was before it is too late. When he went back, he realised his father had not change. Flashbacks tells the story of a young Edward Bloom (Ewan Mcgregor) living his fantastical tales.
And it was up to Will now to come to terms with the man his father is and was

This was an amazing movies. Direction was tight, the script was amusing and entertaining, the cast performance superb, cinematography excellent. Special effects were no LOTR but it served well for the movie.
Plenty of qoutables from the script as well; Some of my favourites..

I walked out of the cinema feeling like Alice who just left the rabbit hole. You know, that feeling like you just experienced something surreal. You got to look past the southern accent and past the siliness of some of bloom's antic and you'll see what I mean.
This movie does what a movie should do, make you cry, make you laugh and make you feel like you found something in it. That my friends, is what satisfaction is about...
