Big Brother was a huge success when it was launched in July 2000. Now it is in the second series of the show.
The show is about 10 contestants who live in a purpose built house and who are monitored by 27 cameras 24 hours a day. They don't have any privacy and have to do the toilet and shower with the knowledge that they could be getting watched by millions of viewers.
10 contestants started in the house and each week someone is nominated out of the house until there is the 1 winner left who gets £70,000. How the nominations work is like this - each housemates have to nominate 2 people who they think should be out of the house, then the people with the most votes from the housemates then go to the public vote. Members of the public can phone a phoneline to vote for someone to be evicted and the person with the most votes from the public gets evicted from the house.

This leaves 4 people in the house - Brian, Dean, Elizabeth and Helen. Now like I mentioned a person got evicted a week, but this is the last week and on friday, each person will be evicted due to the public votes until the winner is left.
Now I know I mentioned that there were only 10 housemates, but in fact there were 11. In the original show there were only 10, but this time they entered another person after the first one (Penny) was evicted. The public voted one person to be entered out of three choices and Josh was the 11th housemate. The producers thought this would spice the show up.
In the house the people have to complete weekly tasks. They are rationed to a weekly shopping budget and write down what items they can afford from the budget. However they bet a percentage of the shopping budget on completing the task. They are allowed to bet anything between 10% - 90%, so the more they bet, the better off they are for shopping.
They are not allowed any contact with the outside world, unless medical attention is needed.
This show is on Mondays - Fridays on Channel 4 at 22:00, but on Friday, eviction night, it is on at 20:30 and 22:00. On Saturdays and Sundays there is shows with the highlights of the week on. Also on the digital channel E4 on Sky Digital 205 it is shown 18 hours a day! It runs from about 23:00 until about 16:00 the next day and this is live viewing from the house. It is on for a few hour long shows as well, but these are just the highlights.

This show has been entertaining, but I couldn't watch it 18 hours a day, as it is boring at bits. The best thing is to watch the highlights.
