For a place which has been boasting itself as the pub capital of India, Bangalore did not have any micro-breweries, when Gurgaon had two. Finally, the first one has opened. The Biere Club. Situated on the junction of Lavelle Road and Vittal Mallaya road (just across our own beer moguls house) is a three stories high colonial style (with glass walls???) building.
The top floor is open air. The interior is very minimal. The music is not very loud. But I am sure, hardly anybody will walk in to hear music into a micro brewery. I am told another one opening shortly in Indiranagar (in Toit)
The attraction of crafted beer is too much to resist and I walked in on sunday evening. The place was well packed by 6. (Not the fish market crowd you find in some pubs). The waiter informed us on entry that if we can find a place to stand or sit, you could go inside. :) That's what we did. We managed to find a window sill to sit. Not very uncomfortable. :)) With craft beer you will find space.
Since we didnt have a proper seat, we had to place order directly at the counter. It was not too difficult. The first set we got was a Belgian Wheat. The taste is still fresh in my mouth. The orange taste was well rounded. The colour a bit on the darker side. Real good stuff. 500ML is 300/- + taxes.
The next we tried the English Ale. It was dark, but the body was not there. It had a watery taste. The head was missing. I was expecting a true stout experience. Disappointed.
The other two options we had was Lager and Dark Ale. Since Lager is nothing exotic, we decided to try the dark ale. It was good. The hop taste was very pronounced and I like the bitterness of the hop. It gave a very strong after taste.
The food is nothing to write about. Its mostly snacks and expensive. Not a place for lunch or dinner. Kids may find it odd, especially in the ground and roof top. Its for adults. The tall stools (some of them does not have a leg support) and you may find difficult to sit for too long. The place has far lesser tables in relation to the available space.
I am sure the initial novelty may be the reason for the crowd. With more breweries popping up and novelty wears off I am sure, I will find a better place to sit. :))
