One of the kings of comic flicks of Bollywood, Priyadarshan has made us laugh since years. And now, he comes up with a thrilling and horrifying (also funny) flick, Bhool Bhulaiyaa. And Priyan does the same good job here which he had done in his previous comic movies.

The story of the movie: US based Siddharth (Shiney Ahuja) and his wife Avni (Vidya Balan) comes to India and decide to go to Siddharth’s native place. There, his family welcomes him with open arms. Siddharth, whose ancestors were the rulers of that place once, demand that he would like to stay in his ancestral mansion with Avni. However his uncle (Manoj Joshi) gets displeased hearing this as everyone believed that the mansion is haunted. But Siddharth and Avni, who didn’t believed in ghosts, started living there. And then….strange and mysterious things started happening in the mansion. Siddharth gets confused and calls his doctor friend Aditya (Akshay Kumar) to help him. Will Aditya be able to help? And is the mansion really haunted?

Bhool Bhulaiyaa is advertised as a comic flick. Actually, there are very few funny moments and the film is a thriller. But though, it doesn’t disappoint you and engrosses and captivates you from the word ‘Go’. From the first scene itself, the film sets the stage that it’s a film dealing with ghosts. And the scenes involving ghosts were excellently shot-the credit for it goes to the DOP, director, sound designer and also the screenplay writers.

The movie instantly catches your attention from the first frame and lets it go only when the film is over. Though the film gets little slow and drags in the second half, it is completely likeable.

There are lots of memorable scenes in the flick. The opening scene is great; also the scenes involving Paresh Rawal and Asrani were funny. But the real ‘mazaa’ starts from the scene in which Vidya Balan enters the haunted floor of the mansion. From there right till the end, the film is completely captivating and doesn’t bore even for a fraction of a second. In short, it’s the best Hindi film of Priyadarshan till date.

Akshay Kumar’s performance is simply superb. Nowadays, he is doing better and creative job and his performance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a classic example of it. Though his entry is late, his performance is the one which you’ll love it. And he looked cool in his specks. Great work, Akki!

This has to be Vidya Balan’s finest performance till date. In the first half, her performance was adorable but she does an outstanding job in the 2 nd half, especially in the last 45 minutes. And she even performed the classical dance perfectly, though she doesn’t even know how to dance properly. This proves that how hard she works for her character. Amazing work, Vidya! Keep up the good work!

Shiney Ahuja was also perfect, though he was missing in some portions of the 2 nd half. But overall, his performance was also a great one. Amisha Patel was the surprise! Though her role was a small role, it was a major one and she does complete justice to her character. I wonder why the producers (T-Series) didn’t promote her properly.

Paresh Rawal, Asrani and Rajpal Yadav-these three actors are seen in almost all the movies of Priyan. They are there in Bhool Bhulaiyaa too, but they didn’t have much to do. Paresh Rawal had the maximum role out of the three and he did as usual nicely. Rajpal Yadav was quite funny, especially in the ghost scene of the 1 st half. Asrani was okay.

Manoj Joshi did his part perfectly. Vikram Gokhale was perfect as a Pandit. Tareena Patel and Vineeth-both were good. Others fare well.

Pritam’s music was cool and happening. As for the songs, the best one has to be ‘Hare Ram’. Along with ‘Hare Ram’, there is also ‘Allah Hafiz’ and ‘Labon Pe’ which were nice songs! That Bengali song was quite horrifying. It’s going to haunt me for days!

Ranjit Barot’s background score was intensifying and loud, which helped in making the scary situations of the movie more horrifiying. Thiru’s cinematography was splendid and perfect throughout the movie. Pony Verma does a great job as the choreographer. Dialogues were perfect.

Neeraj Vora deserves a salute for writing an amazing screenplay. Neeraj Vora till now, have written only screenplays for comic flicks. But this time, he does an exceptionally great job.

Madhu Muttom, the writer of the film, must be on cloud nine! His story has been developed into 3 movies in 3 different languages, and all 3 are hits. He really wrote a great, flawless story. Most important is that the story is logical, and different.

Priyadarshan as a director does complete justice. He kept the movie balanced as horror flick and as a light humorous one. He placed songs only when necessary and made the movie highly engrossing, captivating and enjoyable.

Some of the best scenes of the movie:

1.    The first scene of the movie

2.    The scene where Vidya opens the door on the 3 rd floor

3.    Akshay’s entry

4.    The song ‘Allah Hafiz’ and ‘Hare Ram’

5.    The last 45 minutes of the movie

On the whole, Bhool Bhulaiyaa has to be the best Hindi movie of Priyadarshan. It has great story, performances are first rate and the work of the crew is equally fantastic. The film hardly has any flaws and the overflowing plusses camouflage these flaws. It’s a must watch for each and every moviegoer.
