I had been to this restaurant once, a coupla years ago and had a decent meal. Went again today expecting to have kickass Bengali lunch. But sadly two of the dishes we were really looking forward to, were unavailable - Bhetki paturi and Daab Chingri. And I remember even the last time I had been there, they didn't have paturi.
So we ordered aampora Sharbat, steamed rice, kosha mangsho, cholar dal, prawn malai curry and ended with nolen gurer ice cream.
The kosha mangsho was really awesome, even though I'm not a mutton fan. My problem with prawn malai curry is the single piece of huge jumbo prawn! They invariably don't taste fresh and have that fishy smell which I can't stand. Same problem today. I prefer medium sized prawns in a malai curry. Also, the jhol/gravy was too watery.
The cholar dal was delicious and studded with little pieces of coconut and plump raisins. The must try Bhojohori Manna's speciality is the nolen gurer ice cream which is a liquid jaggery laced deliciously earthy, creamy ice cream with little pieces of chhena/home made paneer. However, they need to work a bit upon their customer service skills and the time factor. Nevertheless, it's a place to die for!
