BPCL, Mr.Dhoni is brand ambassador of its MAK lubricants/engine oil products. The company has rich history and was founded by SHELL long time ago, this is the company which inspired Mr.Dhirubhai to make a company bigger than this(erstwhile Burmah Shell).
Regarding the salary and benefits in this organization, its pretty on a higher side compared to other companies with similar structure. Still, if you are not too much into money thing, read further.
The brand value is impeccable. If you want to join a global Oil major like Shell, Total, Chevron etc. The brand value is strong if you are planning to join higher education institutes like MBA, MS in Oil technology etc.
Work environment, it depends where you are posted, in which SBU(strategic business unit) and location. This can change things upside down. I don't want to name all the things here, but, if you are given Refinery locations, its best, and second best I would consider as the Marketing SBU if you are located in Headquarters only.
Job security, BPCL scores high on this, but, a new bill has been passed which gives PSU right to decrease 10% of their payroll each year, for various reasons, 1 of them is incompetence or poor repetitive performance. I don't think a highly motivated person who makes to this type of organization will face this.
Now, till this point, its GOOD points for BPCL, this one is the enemy for this company for talent retention.
I am talking about Career Growth.
A batch is recruited, and typically, first four promotions are given at the same time to ALL of them, which means, irrespective of your performance. This means, till you have spent 15 years in company, all who joined together will be having same treatment. WHAT THE HELL!
This is where BPCL kills motivation, enthusiasm to do more, to put in more hours, to learn and do more for company. And this has been the main cause of talented people leaving the company in past in large numbers.
This is a dream company for the likes, who are not too much competitive, not too much ambitious and don't mind average career growth.
But mind one thing, it is not like a typical SARKARI attitude company that we think where no work is done.
( Now a days, most of the sarkari offices are doing good work, depending on the location incharge).
