Bhagam Bhag was the movie I had lots of expectations, since I have seen its first look. The promos also promised 100% entertainment. But unfortunately, Bhagam Bhag doesn’t give what was expected.

The story of the movie: Champak (Paresh Rawal) owns and runs a theatre group in India. Bunty (Akshay Kumar) and Babla (Govinda) are two of the many actors who work in it. Both are naughty guys who always run behind girls. Because of their misbehaviour, the main heroine of their group (Tanushree Datta) opts out of the theatre. On the other hand, an organizer (Asrani) offers Champak to perform various shows in London. Champak and his group reach London and they start finding a girl who would work in their shows in London. Bunty finds one girl, Munni (Lara Dutta). Bunty started falling in love with Munni. But there is one problem-Munni suffers from amnesia and suicidal tendency. And one day, she regains her memory and reveals that she is actually married to rich man in Liverpool, Vikram (Arbaaz Khan).

Bhagam Bhag has lots of nice and funny moments in the first half. In fact, the first half does not have a single boring moment. It moves very fast. During the intermission point, you are fully entertained and you look forward for a great second half--a second half with lots of expectations. But in the second half, humour evaporates and its place is taken by murder mystery. The murder mystery sequence begins quite well. It was very clearly carried out and it was slightly shocking too. But later, you get a feeling that the mystery gets solved quickly and the movie should end fast. Such things should not happen in a Priyadarshan movie who gave the viewers laughathons like Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul, Malamaal Weekly, Garam Masala etc. Also, the climax was not as hilarious like the climax of Hungama, Malamaal Weekly etc. And the climax had striking similarities to the climax of Hungama and Shaadi No.1.

Akshay Kumar performs his part nicely. Though his acting is repetitive, he doesn’t disappoint at all. From the beginning till the end, he was excellent and does no overacting.

Govinda is back with a bang! After acting in disasters like Ssukh, Sandwich etc Govinda gets a movie where he can prove that he is still the best. Really, his performance was better than all and his different expressions and behaviour during the various situations in the movie is just amazing! I hope he rocks in the same way in Salaam-E-Ishq.

Paresh Rawal gets ample scope in the second half and performs very nicely throughout the movie. Lara Dutta was strictly okay. She looked pretty and cute, but she was not the perfect choice for such a role. Arbaaz Khan was not in full form in Bhagam Bhag. Jackie Shroff did full justice to his role.

Rajpal Yadav (as Gullu, the driver) was great in the first half but in the second half, he was hardly there. Manoj Joshi overacted in several places. Shakti Kapoor was totally hilarious. The scene where he falls into the gutter is sure to bring the house down. Others like Asrani, Sharat Saxena, Razzaq Khan etc were okay. Tanushree Datta (special apperance) looked cute and hot.

Pritam’s music was quite good. As far as songs are concerned, all were nice. ‘Pyaar Ka Signal’, ‘Tere Bin’, ’Afreen’ were truly rocking. The title track is shown in the end (1 crore was spent on this song and I cant understand what was so special in it that they had to spend so much money in it!).

Jeeva’s cinematography was fine. Sabu Cyril again does a great job this time. The sets used in the song ‘Pyaar Ka Signal’ and ‘Afreen’ were quite lavish and unique! Neeraj Vora’s dialogues were as usual humorous.

Priyadarshan’s direction was nice but not so good as seen in his previous movies. But overall, it was quite good.

The scenes, which were quite rocking:

  1. The scene where Akshay and Govind go to a park to search their heroine.

  2. The scene where Manoj Joshi, Sharat Saxena jumps into the hotel swimming pool

  3. Lara Dutta’s entry

  4. The scene where Lara talks bout suicide to Govinda and Paresh Rawal

  5. The scene where Sharat Saxena throws a grenade towards Paresh Rawal and Paresh tries to eat it!

  6. The scene where Shakti Kapoor falls into the gutter

  7. The train sequence

On the whole, Bhagam Bhag is not the best from Priyadarshan. It is an okay movie. The first half is excellent with lots of funny moments. But it’s the second half, which largely disappoints due to the murder mystery and its excessive length. Therefore, it’s worth watching just once.

My rating- * *1/2
