Here it comes, my third review for the year 2013, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Most of the directors have made an attempt to make a movie on life events of various iconic personalities. THE LEGEND OF BHAGAT SINGH, PAAN SINGH TOMAR etc are few of the examples. This time it's Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG.

The very first thing I would like to say is, this is not an Entertainment movie. You can either relate it with an biography or a documentary on the life of the Flying Sikh, 'Milkha Singh'. So, expecting a happy go lucky ending or an unexpected twists and turns is simple not going to work for you.

After RANG DE BASANTI & DELHI - 6, Director Mehra and writer Prasoon Joshi encompass chapters from the icon's life and create a film that makes you salute the sportsperson, and at the same time evoking the spirit of nationalism in the spectator.

The movie depicts on the life of Milkha Singh's right from his childhood, taking back in time, when Milkha lost his family members during the partition and his rise to the celebrated status without any guidance & financial helps. Also depicted in this 3-hour 13 mins film are the conquests, the lows, the rise to the skilful attainment.

In fact, the writer comes up with an incredible script that keeps you hooked from the starting to the end. There are a number of sequences that make you moist eyed, leaving an amazing impression. The superb editing and the electrifying background score [Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy] further heightens the drams

Now coming to the characters for this movie, Farhan akhtar. The screen belongs to him. He plays his role with complete sincerity. He has progressively evolved into a superior actor, but he outshines himself crossing the spectators expectations with BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG. Farhan delivers an enchanting performance as the Flying Sikh. His brilliant portrayal and precise interpretation of the character is sure to win him huge admiration, praise and respect from all corners. What's noteworthy is the effort the actor has invested in his athletic physique, the hair & the body language. This is one of the memorable performance that should find a strong nomination in the year's best performances.

Another best thing I see in this movie is we have less Sonam Kapoorism. She has a very brief character to play. Divya Dutta is simply outstanding as Farhan's sister. An extraordinary actor! Prakash Raj, cast in a positive role & Yuvraj's Father, Yograj Singh as a coach is good. Dilip Tahil as Panjitji was fine too.

Cons: The length & slowness of the movie. The 3 hour 13 mins biopic has many unwanted sequences & songs which could have cut shorted to at least 2 hour 30 mins. 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ may not impress an average moviegoer, for it comes across a very slow film.

You might compare it with 'Paan Singh Tomar' after watching the movie but both of them are totally opposite as far as story is concerned. Not that the film doesn’t have any drawback. But it surely leaves you with feelings that you may not be able to describe in words.

My ratings 4.5 out of 5!
