As many people wopuld be aware that Mumbai has several streetside eating joints.These are places where a common man can have his fill without burning his pocket too much. Some of thes places have ecome famous over the years and boast of loyal customers. In this review it is not possible to accomodate all the streetside eating joints but I give you my five most favourite places.
I am sure my fellow MSians will write about their favourite eating joints.
1) Lenin Pav Bhaji - situated in khao galli( lane with streetside eateries)across the SNDT University, Marine Lines in Mumbai. Butter Pav Bhaji costs Rs 20. A plate of extra pav will cost you Rs 5.Crowded during lunchtime. Pav Bhaji served with garlic chutney and finely chopped onions. If you do not wish to have pav bhaji they serve tava pulao which is also delicious.
2) CTO vadapavwala - Situated across the Bombay High Court near the Central Telegraph Office facing Hutatma Chowk, this joint is always crowded with students and office goers. A piping hot vada pav will cost you Rs 4.The Ghati masala in the vada pav adds to the flavour making it spicy. Also you can have fried chillies complimentary with the vada pav.
3) Aakash Chaat Bhandar - A very famous food stall on the Andheri Station( West side). The prices are a bit steep compared to other roadside vendors but the quality of food available is much better. Aloo Tikki and Dahi Puri cost Rs 20 each while pani puri will set you back by Rs 12. Can be overcrowded in the evenings during peak hours.
4) Lucky Sandwhich - This stall is sitauted opposite the lane of St Xavier's School on station road Vile Parle( West). Regular Sandwhich costs Rs 12 while the grill sandwhich costs Rs 40. Recently this outlet has started offering Pizzas at Rs 40. The stall next to this stall is owned by the same person offers frankies ppriced at Rs 14.
5) Sai Samarth Dosa Center - This is sitauted next toLucky Sandwhich stall. There are around 50 varieties of dosa on offer. Priced from Rs 10 for Sada Dosa to Rs 50 for Palak Paneer Dosa. My favourite here is the Chopsuey Masala Dosa. Avoid this joint on weekend evenings or you will have to wait for more than an hour to get your dosa.
