The movie has come with much hype and justifiably so since Ranbeer is riding an all time high career crest with back to back hits last year. He is arguably today's most suave, charismatic and effortless actor. With Besharam he is out to prove his massy appeal(after the classy appeal of Barfi) and one cannot find any fault in his bravura performance even in this shameless charade of "Besharam".

The unfortunate part is that apart from the leading man's emoting maturity, and a wonderfully supporting cast of Rishi Kapoor as Inspector Chulbul Chautala and the effervescent Neetu Singh as his taunting, loving wife constable, the film lacks seriously in many departments and for an A+ grade star it all seems insufficient and lazy and thats such a SHAME!

The opening credits roll off with a car robbery episode which is lengthy beyond tolerance and just not gripping enough. There are 3-4 songs right in the first 20 minutes. One is left quite baffled as to where the director wants to take the introduction to. A good film is one in which the first 20 minutes are gripping. After all, an impressive introduction whether its  a performance or an interview spells half the success of that venture. Besharam is so off track in the first few scenes that its unbelievable that when the director had such fabulous resources and actors at his disposal why is the impact so dull and listless?

Then the heroine Pallavi Sharda saunters in . Though her dialogue delivery is confident she has no sufficient calibre to impress. She is neither beautiful nor does she have that X-Factor or charm that perhaps made Sonakshi click so well with the aam junta. She portrays she is assertive and ambitious but none of her subsequent scenes or performance nuances reinforce that feeling. And surprisingly her wardrobe is so boring and outdated its a shocker. Its imperative that a new heroine is presented well but here noone seems to have vared for her style. She is very ordinary in the styling and looks aspect.

She dances very well and energetically though and that aspect has been utilised well since the film has many unnecessary and mediocre dance numbers thrown in.

Music is another letdown. For a film that was trumpeting about being an all round entertainer, none of the songs are worth remembering and hummable. Choreography  is good enough for the scenes but no song and no dance step stand out. And the songs are so many they become irritating.

The supporting cast is a delight though. Javed Jafri as the "hawala king" and the primary villain is very very good. He is menacing, funny and at the same time most believable in this inanely plotted film.  He deserves a special mention for his impeccable timing and sheer good looks.

Rishi and Neetu as the bantering couple are very comfortable. The climax scenes belong to them as they shoot fiery dialogues, jive and dance with aplomb in the final track and blow  the villains away with sheer gusto and "dum" . A special mention for the friend of Ranbeer who assists him in his car business and robberies. He is called TITU or T2 or Terminator 2 and has a great comedic timing. He will go far in his career.

The story of the film is absolutely flat. The first half has hero chasing after the girl and the second half is also about some chase and one really stops caring after a while as to where the film is headed coz there is no head and there is no tail to this Besharam tale. There are no twists and turns to the story, its all very slow, uneventful and without purpose.

I had gone with a lot of expectations. Ranbeer stood up to them as he was very bindaas and without restraints in his performance but he is let down by a shoddy script that does not even 20% justice to his phenomenal talent. Aided by a lack luster heroine(who has incidentally a very long parallel role akin to hero) and a lack of any drama and interesting moments that the viewer carried home, its at best an average fare.

No word of mouth for this. Only the initial hype and curiosity will work for it. Has a few laughs but rare. Boredom moments are many.
