The writer certainly has a flair for the melodramatic, which kind of ruins what could have been a very believable review. One almost expects the'old man at the counter' to transform into a hairy, pig snout harvesting werewolf, the lights to dim and the waiter to show himself in his true form, a brain-sucking zombie in tattered, blood stained clothes.
That the reviewer writes well is true. That the review is highly emotional, extreme and a bit short on facts is also true. Going by my previous meals at Bernardo's, I was hard pressed to find any facts at all, except for the part where the reviewer confesses to being honest and forgetting the name of one of the dishes.
The simple fact however is, there is a large bunch of people, including hard core foodies, who adore Bernardo's. Also undeniable is that every household has a different recipe for different dishes, all of which none of us will ever have the opportunity to evaluate. a fact that the reviewer has quite conveniently chosen to ignore. Then again, I wonder where the reviewer ate pig snout curry last. I do like pig tails and ears though. Delicious, unfortunately not available at Bernardo's. Try them at Hao Shi Nian Nian.
I suggest the reviewer shrug off any bad experiences with her family recipes and try another meal at Bernardo's with an open mind.
Sentimental idiot I may be, though not a gullible one.
