Beautiful chalets, clear skies.this is the place to be for honeymooners.

Berjaya Resort is as beautiful as you see it in the pictures, and perhaps more.

Being forced to cancel a well planned trip to Phuket this was our last minute choice. Till the time I entered the room, I didn't know what to expect. It was way better than anything I expected. the partial sea facing chalet that was amazing. Let me take you on a tour. Steps led to a beautiful porch, on entering the room, on you right would be two full length wooden closets with motion sensors.

The king sized bed are well made with side tables and lamps on either side. there is a recliner by the main window and if its open in daytime, you need not burn electricity. there is a large looking mirror and a study table. Fruit basket is also on this table. The chest of drawers next to it has mini-bar at the bottom. It also has tea mugs, water etc. You can heat water in the electric kettle provided. In fact we heated water and cooked Maggi in the huge mugs provided! Generally the resort provides 2 half liter bottles of mineral water each day. At times there were sweets of various kinds delivered in the evening by a smiling employee. Dont know if this is so for all chalets or only for the sea facing ones. We stayed at a partial sea facing chalet and that cost us around 9, 000 rs a day. This was the seond costliest of the options. Non sea facing ones are cheaper, and on the other hand there are sea facing chalets that are better and costlier.

The resort houses various restaurants, Japanese, Thai and bar. The Japanese restaurant is at sea, but being vegetarians we did not see a single thing on the menu that was meant for us, so gave it a skip. The a la carte resturant close to the beach that served breakfast was really good. It was much much better than the other buffet option. Vegetarian options on the whole were limited. There was a sambhar tasting dish with rice. Oily veg spring rolls and maida roti and dal known as, roti canai. So there was something to eat if you could intersperse it with Maggi, or other noodles. There is a nice south Indian resturant at the other side of the island.

Scooterettes are easily available on rent and petrol is cheap, so go for it at least a day of easy fun. We went around the entire 120km of the island in 3 litres of petrol. At 28 Rs a litre this was damn cheap! Remember to keep a copy of the map distributed free at the airport and various places otherwise you might be stuck in the night on a strange road with not a soul in sight, and if there is one, the chances that he she will understand your English will be grim. Also people know places by their malaysian names and not English ones that we use. E.g. the Seven Wells are locally known as Telega Tujuh and people generally repsond to that name.

The Seven Wells is very close to the resort and is a good place to visit. There are around 700 steps to the main waterfall. Also remember to carry your towel and chnage of clothes. The Cable Car made famous with the'Don' bridge is right next to the hotel. For those who don't know, the climax of Don was shot on this bridge. For us the sightseeing for half day was arranged in the package, which was interesting as the group included families from different hotels who booked through a different travel agent! Anyway the guide will ask you to extend the tour for extra money and show you around. Accept it and go around to Crafts Museum, Bat Cave, Fish farms and Eagle Square etc. You would have seen most of the key places of Langkawi and can now focus on water sports etc.

The hotel has a big private beach and hosts a number of water sports, though they will cost a lot! The spa is expensive too, but worth the money;) The staff is courteous and speaks english. Berjaya is luxury, but at a price. It is an unforgettable experience, the way a honeymoon should be!
