Directed by British Director Chritopher Nolan (Memento ) - this is an absolute masterpiece. Most of the cast is british except for Katie Holmes (better known as Tom Cruises's love interest) and Morgan Freeman (can't find a better actor). As for the news today, except for Katie everyone else is signed up for a sequel (that is a good news).
Here is a story of how and why Bruce Wayne becomes Batman - the questionable superhero and why he does what he does to save Gotham City. Bruce sets out on discovering the world and lands in himalayas to learn Eastern mysticism (nothing new here)
Christian Bale (Empire of the sun and American Psycho fame) plays batman convincingly and captures the essence of the character. His butler or rather the friend is played by Michale Kaine (Mr. sex without specs as he is known) Lucious Fox - the top scientist of Wayne corporation is played by Morgan Freeman. Dedication of lead actor (he shed 50 pounds for ''The machinist'' and looked like a stick man before batman started) is admirable.
Gotham is visually very appealing and constructed using CGI. The villain is scarecrow - the psychologist and he is working for someone else. Aging Holmes - the district attorney keeps trying to fight corruption - only to be defeated by scarecrow who claims they are insane. I do not mean to ruin the plot for you so you find out. The city faces danger from Final chase sequences are very believable.
Whether or not, you are a comics aficionado, this movie is a must-watch (I never give 5 star rating to anything, anyway). However, the movie may be a little heavy as it is a psychological drama.
May be Hollywood should leave movie-making to britishers, what say?
