Hi.

It was really interesting to read about bata from MS members, but I really beg to differ.

All through my school days I have been wearing BATA shoes and I also used them for some time in college. Then as I grew up I realised that there were other brands available which were not so monotonus like bata and very much affordable.

For the past 2 years I have not ventured in a BATA due to the unfavorable experiences our family has had.

It was my fathers birthday and so I decided to gift him a Hush Puppy shoe. Since I and my fathers shoe size being same I tried the shoe. Though I tried only the right leg shoe, assuming that the left will be in accordance with the right one. On his birthday I presented him with the shoe. He was pretty glad to have received it and I was pretty happy that it was appreciated by him.

To our shock the left leg shoe was a size smaller than the right one. It clearly said the size number (10) I required but it did not fit. Nevertheless we took it to the bata showroom to have it replaced. The salesmen were not ready to accept the fault in the shoe till my father tried them on in front of them. They showed another pair which was also the same kind. We asked for a refund as it was not upto our satisfaction. The salesman and the showroom incharge had the audacity to ask us to ''refurbish'' the said shoe with the adjoining ''mochi'' as it had a worn look.

While we reached at the cobbler and we tried to exlpain him that the shoe required refurbishing, he wasnt surprised either as he mentioned that it was a regular feature with BATA patrons and his fees were Rupees 10/-. So we paid him Rs 10/- for a new look to the new shoe and we got our refund.

Next time my mom went to purchase a floater, incidently I was with her. This time it was another outlet of BATA.

She tried 3 pairs of floaters and all three had different sizes in either leg. The salesman educated us that since there was recent local manufacture of all BATA products unlike the earlier imported ones, there arises sometimes this mistake.

Now all this cannot be a co-incidence, either our family has overgrown in one leg or BATA quality has simply detoriated.. that is for you all to understand.

SO now you all know why we do not frequent Bata anymore.

By the way, Mumbai-ites can visit THE LOFT at POWAI for an amazing variety of shoes at very very reasonable rates.
