Hi friends,

First of all, extremely sorry for being inactive out here for so many days at a stretch. Actually school re-opened and I got a lot of studies to do. Weekly tests and all. Moreover, a very close friend was in the hospital, so at that point of time, I had lost my sanity with the tension. Anyhow, back here, I have tried to RRC most of the reviews that I have missed. Kindly forgive me if I have missed something. Do let me know of the same. Rajeev, Sujai, Shradha, Sneha, Sakshi, Pushan... and more!

Alright, press that NU button after reading the review if you wish. I am no agent of Xoom.com, or whatever it is. This is the way I was introduced to the songs of Barsaat from Raaga.com. Anyway I forwarded it and went ahead to listen to the soundtrack. Wanna know how it is? Read on...

Barsaat Ke Din Aaye is a typical beginning to a Nadeem-Shravan album. It starts off pretty well and maintains it’s pace throughout. The trailer on the idiot box may give an impression that this is yet another love song by NS, but hearing this makes you realize why Suneel Darshan always opts for this duo in all his films. This is not a slow number as the promos suggest, but it pretty fast-paced, and with the barsaat mausam around the corner, this should be a perfect number for you to sing for your beloved. Kumar Sanu sings as good as always, and Alka Yagnik... Well is she the future Lata Mangeshkar? You decide!

Rating: 9/10.

Mushkil Hai: ’’He loves me, he loves me not.’’ This is exactly the way the number begins. This song has some rap arrangements in between the antara and the mukhara. It seems to be a song picturized simultaneously on both due to the variations in the singing of both Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik (They sing this well, did you ask?) Overall, a decent track that doesn’t let you down after the amazing beginning to the album.

Rating: 6.5/10.

Pyaar Aaya: As I see the mention of Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik on the page, I expect a Suraj hua Maddham kinda matured romantic number. And with NS as the music directors, did I expect too much? But this takes you back to the early 90’s when the Rahul Roy-Pooja Bhatt type of songs were topping the charts. However, this doesn’t disappoint you a bit! ’’Dekha jitni baar tumko... Aur zyaada pyaar aaya.’’ This should say it all of what the song is all about. Give it a ear!

Rating: 7/10.

Nakhre: Don’t get surprised by the name of this song on this album. NS always have 1-2 item numbers in their album, and this is an excellent addition to that. A fun song, which tells a guy to tolerate the beloved wife’s nakhre as he has married him. If you liked ’’Ek Kunwara’’ from MASTI which spoke about pre-marriage situation, this one, which speaks about post-marriage (read miserable) condition of the husband, is sure to appeal to you. NS do specialize in romantic numbers, but once in a while, who thought they would come up with a number like this? Sameer’s lyrics are sure to bring the house down, and so is Alisha’s singing. A must for the youth and the wannable bridegrooms!

Rating: 9/10.

Chori Chori Ladi Akhiyaan: The beginning of this track resembles ’’Pardesi Pardesi’’ from RAJA HINDUSTANI and later, ’’Saajan Saajan’’ from DIL KA RISHTA (both by NS). During the entire duration of the song, it also brings to your mind various other NS compositions. If you thought this all had an adverse effect on the song, wait... Listen to this one! Combination of various NS tunes only enhance the appeal of this one. It tells about the condition of the bride before marriage when she chori chori has a look at her to-be husband. Because of Sapna Awasthi and also for the music arrangements, a strong Rajasthani flavour runs throughout the song. Alka Yagnik sings exceptionally well, while Udit Narayan has very little to do. Sapna Awasthi is her normal self. A good one!

Rating: 8.5/10.

Aaja Aaja: If you thought these songs would be enough for you to go for the album, spare some time to listen to this fantastic number. All about a girl waiting for her piya to come back and about her feelings when he is away, this one makes you glued to the audio system from the word GO. The pace of the song is fast, which is maintained throughout. A solo number by Alka Yagnik, you wonder whether anyone else could have done justice to the song as much as she has done. Go for it without thinking twice!

Rating: 9/10.

Maine Tumse Pyaar Bahut Kiya: Yet another solo by Alka Yagnik that doesn’t let you down. The song is all about the rejection the lady has suffered due to the man in her life, and now she curses him for it. (A similar composition was witnessed in the not-so-recent TALAASH - ’’Masoom Chehra’’) The music arrangements take you back to the mid-70’s. This is not a slow song, but pretty fast paced. Alka Yagnik sings it with full maturity and justifies her selection for this one.

Rating: 7/10.

Saajan Saajan: A typical Indian track that will appeal to the die-hard NS fans. The song is probably about one heroine expressing her desire to decorate his dulhan (Confused? So am I!). Anyways it is soon cleared as the lyrics by Sameer say that it is an ’’imtihaan ki ghadi.’’ During the end of the song, there’s a shayari that you might have heard in SMS. It goes:

Hum hanste hai to unhe lagta hai ki hamari aadat hai muskarane ki

Par woh nadaan yeh bhi nahi samajhte ki yeh ek kala hai gham chupane ki.

Alka Yagnik is roped in once again, and she delivers what is expected of her. However, one wonders why was Kailash Kher selected for this one as he has just a single line, which anyhow, doesn’t even make an impression. An above-average track overall.

Rating: 6/10.

OVERALL :-

There are numerous times when music directors try to pack all the variety in an album - romantic, sad song, bhangra, item number, timepass track, and what not. The result is that they mess up with most of them. But there are many, who stick to what they specialize in, or about the mood of the film. Nadeem-Shravan belong to this genre.

As for Barsaat, NS does exactly that (except for ’Nakhre’, but that is fine). All the numbers stand out despite being similar ans soft in nature. After LUCKY, I found only this which has the potential to reach the top (I haven’t heard the music of Paheli yet!) To sum up, a must-have for all music lovers. This will disappear from the music stores in no time at all, partly due to the hype surrounding it and partly due to the amazing content of it. Buy it before it gets out of stock!

------------------------------------------

Guys I have no such great knowledge of music to analyse the depth in each and every song. I am just a normal guy (Err, I do not mean that those who have idea of music are abnormal) with normal reasoning. So sorry if you were let down by it. Anyways, listen to the album, and do share your opinion on the same in the Comments section!!
