Suneel Darshan ,the director of films like EK RISHTA ,JAANWAR and ANDAAZ is back with his latest film in form of BARSAAT.There are tremendous expectations from the film because of its hit music and decent promo. The first question that you ask yourself [after watching first day first show] is ,does it deliver ? Yes ,it does but partly!
Made under the banner of Srikrishna Internation ,it stars Bobby Deol ,Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu in lead roles .The film is really critical for Bobby Deol and Bipasha Basu as they are going through rough phase and one hopes that it does well .
Story of BARSAAT looks completely out of place in todays time with stupid stuff like KARWA CHAUTH . The amateurish handling of the subject and a humdrum screenplay are its biggest culprits! But there is no denying that film works to an extent because of superlative performance from Priyanka Chopra and there is something about it which touches your heart !
It bears a Sunil Darshan trade mark right from the beginning to the end i.e some illogical sequences ,songs at regular interval ,high melodrama but good thing is that it is cut above Sunil Darshan's earlier works.
It begins with two childhood pal [Bobby,Priyanka]cycling in the rain ..This sequence reminds you ANDAAZ where Lara and Akshay were doing the same honour!
After that it takes a leap of 20 years and we get to see Bobby Deol [grown up] working in An Automobile company in America[oops,that was South Africa!] .Bikes and cars are his passion .He is a man with high dreams ...
His life changes when he meets gorgeous [hardly!] Bipasha Basu and after some intital problem ,both are couple .After that we get to see 3 songs in 20 minutes!!!!
Story takes a turn when Bobby returns to India to observe his ill father in Manali .Wait.....there is a twist in the tale ! Bobby was already married to pretty Priyanka Chopra before he had left for America.But this was more of a compromise for Bobby as he was forced to do so .
Bobby Deol now wants a divorce from Priyanka .Priyanka tries her best to save the her marriage life but in vain .After getting divorce from Priyanka ,Bobby is all set to marry Bipasha but he suddenly finds himself in love with Priyanka .If you are Bollywood movie Buff ,its not hard to guesss who gets Bobby in the end .Naturally Prityanka in superbly executed climax !
The first half of BARSAAT is anything but exciting .The sequence between Bobby and Bipasha are poor .The so called comedy scenes are enough to tear your hair in disgust .What we get to see is cars and vehicles and juvenile jokes .
But things take a better turn with introduction of Priyanka Chopra .The film starts to grip the viewer and interval point takes film to a new high when Bobby asks a divorce from Priyanka .
The second half half saves the film from sinking .There are some events which are superbly executed like the scene where Bobby ,Priyanka and company are playing the word game .Similarly the sequences where Bobby and Priyanka remember their old days are touching .Ditto for climax when Bobby refuses to sign on those divorce paper .
Music is another plus points which is high on melody .Title track and Sajan sajan are pick of lot.
BARSAAT belongs to Priyanka Chopra who gives flawless account of herself in a role that seems tailor made for her .She is just superb. Apart from a flawless portrayl ,she connects with the viewer with utmost sincerity and expressive eyes .She manages to strike a chord a chord with my heart .
Bobby Deol hams to hilt and looks tired ,jaded and terrible .Ditto for Biapasha Basu who is so disgusting in the film .She spells disaster .Yes ,she rocks in Nakhre song and that's it.Others are passable.
In short ,BARSAAT is a typical Bollywood film which is high on melodrama .Watch it for one reason-Priyanka ,Priyanka and Priyanka .
