Barfi – Absolute Classic.

From past few years we are always supposed to see Bollywood mindless Comedy movies leaving our thinking brain at home. After long time it was really great to watch a Hindi film which has finally taken the jump from mindless entertainers & started dealing with more in depth emotional subjects.

Barfi is a very rare combination of art and entertainment. I have seen very few movies that make us laugh & cry at the same time & definitely Barfi is one among them. I really liked this movie, in fact one of the best I have seen in a while. In one line Barfi is a Great movie for thinkers, only the brainless won't love this.

Barfi is all about Ranbir Kapoor (Barfi) a deaf and mute carefree guy who brings smile to everyone’s face & believes in making the most of whatever life has given him.  There are two beautiful ladies in his life, Ileana (Shurty) & the Priyanka Chopra  (Jhilmil). Brafi discovers a true love & companionship in Jhilmil the autistic girl. The bond between Barfi & Jhilmil is built beautifully. Through a series of events all three characters discover what love really is. Rest of the movie revolves around these characters. Barfi is not just another tear jerker as expected by many. On the contrary it’s a very enjoyable movie having many entertaining moments.

Ranbir Kapoor delivers an award-winning performance. Ranbir Kapoor as Barfi is the soul of the movie. He has once again proved that he's one of the best actors of new generation. I don't think there's another movie star out there that could've tackled this role. Right from the first scene Ranbir the talented actor makes us believe what we are seeing. The facial expressions of Ranbir are quite realistic. He is an actor with the ability to effectively portray the character's inner feelings & emotions & express what the director wants; He definitely deserves a National award for his brilliant performance.

Priyanka Chopra is one actress who has not given anything other than mind blowing performances. This is not one of those powerful author backed roles she was known for playing, but it's still a very special one in her career. She does not try to impress or steal the show from Ranbir. Both she and Ranbir complement each other in their scenes together,

Ileana makes a confident debut; she has maintained the dignity of her character to the expected level. Watching her is a simple delight. Even the supporting characters, especially Saurabh Shukla,  Ashish Vidyarthi, Roopa Ganguly, Akaash Khuruna & Haradhan Bandhopadhyay, have done their best & the movie races on thrilling speed at every moment.

No second thought, this is Anurag Basu's best movie. He has put his heart and soul into the film. To portray disability with a humour & without overt sympathy is a very challenging job & Director Anurag Basu manages the job very well. He has himself scripted and written the screenplay of the movie, and because of the tight script each character emerges as real. The whole movie is filled with many moments of emotional range, laughter, smiles and cries. He has handled the characters very well and executed masterly. Director Anurag Basu rightly deserves all the praises.

Musically, the film has Pritam to give exactly what was needed as per the subject. Pritam comes up with a score of a lifetime. His music plays a big role. It is soothing and touching, Songs don’t act as a hindrance in the narration. Ravi Varma ’s cinematography is absolutely beautiful, making this movie a visual treat. Seeing this movie is like being there for the time. The photography and the locations are absolutely fabulous. Akiv Ali ’s editing is brilliant & Sanjeev Dutta ’s dialogues are fabulous. The film is brilliant in the technical department.

Over all Barfi is an absolute classic. A fresh story told in a simple way with many incredible performances to cherish. It's definitely worth a watch among the movies releasing nowadays. Words fall short for this great team work.
