A DSA by the name of Sarika calling from #+91 22 65206535 approached me in the month of June extending an offer for a Barclays credit card. I gave all the relevant documents. The agent took an imprint of my Citibank credit card at that time. I just assumed this was the routine procedure for procuring a credit card.
On 8th August since I had not yet received any communication, I gave a call to the customer service desk at Barclays # 022 6001 6001 and was told that they would look into the matter. On Saturday 9th, I received a call from Sarika who said that she would send someone across on Monday for the latest credit card statement. I assumed that because of delay in submission in June by the DSA, I had to give the latest copy of July statement.
I also checked with the call centre earlier and they mentioned that DSA’s are not supposed to be taking an impression of the credit card. This is illegal and not allowed. Now I have been asked to give a copy of my original credit card statement by the DSA(Sarika). But on calling the customer service on the other line, Sarika backtracked and mentioned that even a xerox would do. On asking the call centre executive if an impression of the card is used, he refrained from answering my query.
These are serious issues which raise concern as to why originals are being asked for and impressions of card being taken by the DSA. I have refused to give the relevant documents and have had to get by old credit card cancelled and reissued in order to avoid any fraud.
