I have been hearing some good comments about BBQ Nation and an office farewell lunch gave me an opportunity to visit this restaurant. We were a bunch of 10-12 people and made prior reservations to ensure we have a bigger table available for us.
Location:
The restaurant is located at the 5th floor of Caculo Mall in Panjim city - a place most Goans know by now.
Parking:
Available at the basement of the mall, if that is full, you will need to park your vehicle on the road outside the mall at your own risk as most of that part is a'No Parking' zone, however you will find many cars parked around.
Ambience:
Very well lit and decent, plush interiors with spaciously placed tables to meet your comfort. There was a live one-man band playing. The experience of Barbeque'ing right at your table is amazing (though the food is pre-cooked and it kind of just warms-up at your table coal counter).
Menu:
I would say good variety for both Non-veg and Veg eaters. In non-veg you have options of Chicken, Fish, Prawns. Fish wasn't very tasty and can be tried once. Surprised, they could not offer some good fish, being in Goa.
Veg options were spice potato, tikki, panner tikka - Pineapple barbecue was something I had for the first time, here.
There is a complimentary drink offered, any additional ones are chargeable.
Main course buffet is average, I thought they need not serve such a huge variety when the restaurant's specialty is in barbeque. Buffet offers soups, salads, chicken biryani, butter chicken and many other options for veg as well. Mutton-Rogush wasn't that great.
Deserts are awesome, especially Kulfi and the varieties they offer in it with toppings - a-must try, besides they have Phirnee, Chocklate brownie, moose, other flavors of ice-creams, Gulab jamun and so on.
Service:
Staff are courteous and efficient. We saw all of them clap and sing'Happy Birthday' for a customer when she arrived (must be her friends organised a surprised b'day lunch for her) - the gesture was nice. The chefs were talking to the customers asking them about their feedback and whether they are enjoying the food.
Price:
Since the place does not offer à-la-carte, its a standard rate of 750/- per head. So, the bill for two should fit in the range of 1500-1800.
Innovations
I saw a new type of cutlery - a two pronged fork designed specially to take the meat off the skewers.
This is also the first place I filled in the feedback form using a tab - nice!
There is a novel way to stop the food that keep flowing in - there is a flag on your table - just bend it!
I was very happy with the place and decided to take my family for dinner. My wife and daughter too enjoyed it, however I found the food/menu was mostly a repeat of what I have had. They could bring in some innovations/changes. So, there is a possibility that after a few visits you may not want to consider it.
Overall, I would say, a-must visit place for first timers. No point taking your girlfriend if she isn't very foody. It's waste of money that you pay, if you are full with just few bites of food. The food just keeps coming and is an ideal place for anybody - couples, families, friends or a big bunch of colleagues - just ensure you have a good appetite.
